Anyone know if Space Pirate Trainer Deluxe is or will be available via Steam?

I could buy it for Oculus Quest, however, I already own the Steam version and I have a bit of an aversion to buying Oculus exclusive titles,…

I'm confused.... you say you already own the Steam version, but want to know if it's available?

I believe it is a Quest specific update due to wireless nature of Quest. You can't really have a whole bunch of PC in a stadium running long ass cables. Maybe once they have a multiplayer that does not require physically next to each other the Steam version will get the update

An Oculus blog entry states that the DX (Deluxe) version is an Oculus exclusive.

The Steam version is non-DX.

Sure but the Quest also has a Wireless PC option does it not? Or is that not official yet.

I would look directly at the Oculus webpage for the Quest 2 for this info. If it is officially supported for sure Oculus will highlight it as a feature.

Fair enough:

Today we’re announcing features that will begin rolling out soon in the v28 software update to Oculus Quest headsets. Oculus Air Link is a wireless way to play PC VR games on Quest 2, while new Infinite Office features make getting work done in VR even easier. We’re also announcing native 120 Hz support for Quest 2 for an ultra-smooth gameplay experience.

Without further ado, let’s dive in.

Keep in mind that Oculus Link was in Beta for the longest so it isn't necessarily valid to suggest "Oculus Air Link" is beta or experimental with respect to Space Pirate Trainer Deluxe.

Anyway, I guess I can do without Space Pirate Trainer Deluxe since I don't care for Oculus Exclusives or buying the same game twice (in order to get an update),....

I already owned the Steam version but bought the Oculus version as well for Quest 2 just for DX. I don't see how a SteamVR version would work for anyone. It requires 15.x15m space to even play it. Way to big for the average PCVR tethered PC atm.. but with more wireless hmd's coming out I can see maybe in the future. Crazy enough I still haven't played it.. lol I'd need to take my Quest 2 outside to even play it. Now there has been enough uproar over it not having controller movement that they might add it in later updates. Now if they do that then I see no reason for them not to add DX to SteamVR. Let's hope they do.

So your saying Oculus Air Link wouldn’t work over a 15x15m area?

If not I could see how that would be a problem. Adding controller movement would definitely help too. Maybe at some point in the future the Steam version will have parity with the Oculus Quest version.

I guess I’ll just wait it out a little for now.

That would depend on your wireless setup. The major thing would be that there would only be a hand full of people that would have that big of a space to use it. I'm seeing a lot of people with quest 2's that don't have that big of a space in their yard or near them. I was off it's not 15mx15m.. It's 10mx10m (32ftx32ft). That's a huge space to have.. lol I'm going to have to use it outside during the evening. The biggest complaint about DX is that it has to be 10mx10m or bigger.. lol You can do like 10mx9.8m.

I like the concept but they really need to add controller movement too just because we need all of the high quality VR content we can get right now.

Ah, I see,…

So it does sound like Oculus Air Link could be a theoretical option. I just wasn’t sure of the range of Oculus Air Link.

Yeah, I don’t think I have a 10mx10m room either. As you said a backyard might work at night. My garage might work without the car in it but the space event gets restricted with stuff over time.

I’m Not anxious to rebuy a game I essentially already have though so I guess I’ll still wait and see what happens.

Yeah, I only bought it at the regular 14 bucks before they price went up to 24.99. I wouldn't buy it at 24.99 because the Quest/2 regular space pirate arena mode is not as good as PCVR. They will have to put the price back down to 14.99 before I would buy it. Now, if they add controller locomotion then the 24.99 is worth it but like I said I've had it and I haven't even played it because of the space it needs to even play it.

I don't even know how good the match making is or how populated it is the hype has died way down since it's launch.. lol The game originally was as a concept for arcades like The Void. Sadly, The Void didn't make it due to the Covid Pandemic. I really wanted to try it out.

Yeah, The Void looks awesome! Too bad it’s no longer viable.

Controller location would solve the main problem of space for DX.

Earlier I said I might be able to play in my garage but I was mistaken. I momentarily conflated feet with meters. 10 feet by 10 feet sure, most people could swing that one would think but 10mx10m is a Horse of a different color.

Yeah, very misleading. You can sit to play the regular Space Pirate Trainer, but not the Area part, unless you plan to wait for someone to come to you.. haha

LOL, that doesn’t sound like a good plan,…. :)

Sitting duck much,…

I came so close to buying this game today. I was about to do it and then I remembered I don’t have the physical space for it and I already own the Steam version.

So while I was checking out the Oculus store I finally caved and bought my first Oculus title. I finally bought “Lone Echo”, a title I’ve wanted since it was first announced.

$9.99 seemed like a halfway decent discount since it was launched at ~$39.99 (~4 yr ago, I really showed them, ha).
