Hey guys i have about a budget of about $600 AUD no more. To spend on my pc speakers I've been told to get an Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIe sound card and combine it with some monitors or Edifier Speakers.

Speakers will be used for Music/Gaming and the odd movie Flick.. But mainly Techno/Hardstyle/RnB so if it has crappy bass don't suggest it.

These are what i was told to get

Studio Monitors
http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=1224

Edifier Range
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=567_568&products_id=7580

And also I've been told to get the Z-5500's but i don't know owning a set of speakers that are 4 years old and that heaps of people have doesn't really interest me. Aside from the fact that people say logitech speakers are leak cheap fakes..

Thanks bcurko

Why spend more?

I don't understand about this cheap fakes thing? They're fantastic speakers, which is why several people have them.

Fair enough :)

Is it particularly 2.1 or 5.1 or anything you wanted?

I'm not saying there cheap fakes just that the audio guru's on other sites say if you don't want the sound to get crackly and sound overdone around the mid's and highs not to bother with them. Just Wondering if it's wiser to get the newer Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System or something else. Why haven't logitech updated there 5.1 range that much?

Atm the Z-5500's are $375 AUD that's the cheapest in Australia at the moment and then bundle that with a new sound card?

Well i wouldn't mind 2.1 like the Logitech Cinema range like the 2.1 Edifier Range i listed above i don't mind either but yeh whichever works out better to suit me i guess

Get the Logitech Z-5500 speakers!

These speakers are awesome & you won't believe the sound & bass coming from them.

Ask anyone who has them.

You won't regret it ;)

If you live with family or people that don't like loud noises go with an awesome headphone setup. I have some Razer Piranha's and they have amazing bass.

As far as I can remember, the Razer Barracuda HP-1 headphones have more bass than the piranha's.

If you are serious about the quality of your music, please avoid any type of speakers from PC peripheral makers.

Have a look at these Aego

I know 3 people that have these attached to PCs and they are totally blown away by the qual/price performance.

You don't know what your talking about... those speakers suck compared to the logitech Z-5500.

You are totally wrong to say he must avoid any type of speakers from PC peripheral makers, they are made especially for PC.

Im sorry but you are SO wrong.

Made for PC = made at a price point (ie cheap) by companies that dont understand the technology, and invariable are concerned more about "OMG 1000 watts" or "OMG 7.1 UBER surrond sound"

How many hifis have you seen with creative or logitech speakers? errrr that would be NONE, NADA, ZILCH.

So in short, buy speakers form companies who know about speakers. Buy PC parts from PC companies. See how simple that is?!

I completely agree with IggSter on this one, best place to look for good speakers would be a store for musicians. A set of studio monitors like some M-Audios would be what you need.

Here's a thought, do you go offroad with your supercar or race with your 4x4?

As far as pc speakers go, the logitechs are pretty good, but there's a reason why studio monitors are different.

For your usage I reckon the Z5500's will fit the bill. The studio monitors will get you a more accurate sound, but at the cost of base.

I work with active studio monitors every day costing 10 times that setup, but use Logitech Z-4's for gaming at home. I also game with the Barracudas, but am currently listening to music on my Sennheisers.

Use what fits your needs.

From a price to performance the z-5500's are an amazing deal, they're outstanding speakers.

Have to remember that if you're going to buy speakers from companies that 'make speakers' you have to get a receiver and such as well which drives up the costs whereas with the z-5500's you only need a sound card.

I agree that for high quality studio speakers you should look elsewhere, but for the average person, logitech & creative is more than enough. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't computer speakers fall under the PC parts subgroup?

Get the Edifiers. If you want surround sound, get the Logitech system. The Z5500's aren't as accurate as the monitors, but do sound very good.

Please dont get the opinion that i think the all PC speakers are a waste of space and while I agree that Logitech probably make the best "PC speakers", when compared to the Aegos they really do pale into nothingness.

As King Wookie said, its all about what is needed. If you want a cheap 5.1/7.1 system inc amp/remote and want it to be compact there is no doubt a traditional set of Logitechs or Creatives are ideal.
However if the quality of sound is paramount you can get some very nice amplified speaker packages (such as the Aego) from respected speaker/hifi companies.

If you want to go with something that's pretty accurate, but still has some bass, try these:
http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=567

Golden rule with speakers is listen to them before buying though.

What works for me might not be to your taste. After all, you the one who's going to be listening to them.

Or do what I did, grab some reasonable pc speakers for gaming and movies etc, and a good pair of headphones for music.

Most PC speakers come built with plastic crap to house the internals and thats what really fucks it up (IMO).
But with some high end *wooden* speakers (along with a good brand) the sound is much more audible.

Get some nice wooden speakers, a good enough receiver and you will have a set up that probably has much more value then any PC speakers.

Sorry I'm an audiophile :p

PC speakers tend to be junk, they are plastic, extremely lightweight, etc - the list goes on!

I've rarely seen a set of PC speakers that compare with HI-FI type speakers e.g. a typical bookshelf speaker would weight about 3.5-7 KG and handle low frequencies as low as 45 Hz. Show me PC speakers which can handle sound as low as 45Hz (subwoofer doesn't count!), show me some decent PC speakers that have rear base ports.

Don't get me wrong, the Logitech Z-5500 are respectable computer speakers and I'm sure they sound fantastic, but as far a specification they do not hold a candle to a AV receiver and mainstream bookshelf speakers.

bcurko, for music and gaming the HI-FI route isn't the way, in this situation I think you are better off buying some cheapo 5.1 speakers, There is no benefit for using the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium its selling point is Dolby Digital Live, since you are not buying an AV receiver this feature is pointless, you'd be better of buying a cheap X-FI with full EAX support, rather than spending extra money on the Titanium.

Also, the "Edirol MA15D Digital Stereo Micro" and "Edifier S730 2.1" are over-priced junk, I'd pick the Logitech Z-5500 over them both. However, I would rather a proper HI-FI/amp setup.

Thanks guys i think i am going to go for the Z-5500's What about these 2.1's from logitech how do they compare? http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/3712&cl=au,en

I am seriously thinking about the Z-5500's but right now since the value of the AUS to US dollar has gone down 20c's it gone from $300AUD to around $375-$400

So i won't get monitors i don't think they will have the bass there and + i need wads of cash to get a decent amp etc...

So right now i am picking in between the Z-5500's and the Edifier's which are still good from what I've heard actually better then the logitechs.

As I said in my previous post the "Edifier's" are over-priced junk, they are not better than the Logitech Z-5500.

As for the "Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System" they also over-priced junk, you can buy a decent AV receiver and stereo bookshelf speakers for the same cost. The subs freqency response goes down to 45Hz which isn't that much bass for a subwoofer :)

Edit:

Ok then Z-5500's it should be unless they aren't too good at playing music. I don't want the bass to kill every song either if you know what i mean

What is stopping you from buying a AV receiver and two wooden bookshelf speakers. Additional speakers can be added at a later date. If you are unable to commit to that, buy the Z-5500.
