And to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future, consider using another container for your drinks. After my spill many years ago I switched to exclusivity drinking from bottles, like sport bottles around any computer, and for coffee or other warm drinks I use a tumbler. That way the worst that happens is a drop at most if I happened to sling it around somewhere, instead of a whole cup of liquids going everywhere.
Hasn't happened since but at least now I know it wont happen either.

Warm water is plenty enough if you've only spilled a little coffee or sugary drink over the motherboard and its slots. It wouldn't be enough if you found a motherboard at the bottom of a tub full of beef tallow.
Here's the recommended procedure to clean the printed circuits of a costly, high-precision electronic measuring instrument with water (pages 153 and 154 in the PDF). Water better not be very hard and thorough drying is most important. I'd leave the motherboard in the sun for two days if the weather is hot and dry, or else, put it in the oven for several hours at 60-70°C. The temperature that @Ferrum Master suggested (100-125°C) is frighteningly high, given that Tj max for Intel CPUs is 100°C.
