ssd problem

hey forum members

i have a problem with my new corsair force 120gb ssd
i got it yesterday(monday)
i installed in my pc i also recieved also new mobo, cpu and mem.

before i decided to buy it i checked out tweaktown to see if it's a good ssd and they gave 93% out of the 100% score

i bought because good reviews, sata 3(6gb/s), great price

when i did a fresh instal and installed the driver from the disk i though i want to know how fast it was, soo in downloaded atto disk and benchmarked it and it was slower than the tweaktown review

whats the problem??

things i did:
made 2 partitions
58.5gb partition for OS
53gb partition for games

things i tried:
tried ahci and ide in bios

specs are on the left
system is all on default settings in bios

note the drive runs on the sata 3(6gb/s) chip

might be an answer in their, Are the 6gbps sata ports really 6gig ,i dont know but they could also be being limited by the sata's bridge to the sytem ive read a few sys reviews that indicate early adopting board manufacturers have been essentially missing the point by under allocating bandwidth available to them

review says sata 3 221Mbps
sata 6 216Mbps

So what you are sayings is that this mobo is crap with sata 3 6gb/s and the ssd is pretty useless now?, all i what is the full speed, i paid for it, so i deserve it

no doubt mate no doubt but even at the speeds you have surely its not that bad and its future proof for your next build,

you could check with asus website to see if a bios updat would improve things and itmay be poss to adjust a bios setting (disable pciex1 ports for eg) that improves things.

It should work correctly on your motherboard. Have you tried installing the latest chipset/storage drivers from Intel?

just installed everything that game on the dvd with, will try some things, but it's pretty late here 22:39 and i have to some major stuff tomorrow

i downloaded the latest intel chipset driver and marvel 6gb/s driver and i got a 3mb increase on write performance,
i did notice that i have not the latest bios i have 0704 and newest is 0901
i downloaded the bios utility but when i double click it it says that i have to check witch os i have (x86 or x64) but if i open it as administrator it says the name is wrong

so how do flash my bios?

If the board you are using is the one listed in your specs you will never reach full speed, all 1366 and 1156 mothboards with SATAIII use a seperate controller, usually Marvell, and they are limited to 1 PCIe lane which is 500MB/s.

I don't see a PCIE switch on the R3G, so the Marvell 9128 chip is running on a 1.1 lane from the ICH, meaning 250MB/s cap. I don't know a whole lot about this, but I think the over 250MB/s read could be explained by reading compressed data and reporting the uncompressed size. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Not sure if youve fixed this yet but I had a similar issue today and it was all down to using the Intel 6GB Sata III port instead of the Marvel 6GB SATA III port on my motherboard.

Check your motherboard manual for which ports are controlled by what... if its a Marvel controller youre currently using for this drive, you're likely to have these issues.
