ok I got my ssd about 3 months ago, and did all the siggested tweaks to make it faster. wel nw I have insanely slow shut down times, It has beren this way since doing the tweaks but im finally getting sick of it, I dont remember which tweak caused it either. im hoping someone knows how to speed up the shutdown time of the o/s, now it literally takes 2 mins before the o/s shuts down, startup time is super fast, but i need to restart it a ton with the revamp im doing with it so hopefully someone can help

whenever i have a shutdown delay it is a specific program that is hanging when the system tells it to die.

what programs are running all the time in the background? troubleshoot by killing various programs BEFORE you tell it to shutdown/restart. if killing one suddenly makes shutdown faster, that's your culprit.

as far as ssd tweaks that CAUSE slow shutdown, i don't know. I am on my 3rd ssd and have applied many tweaks throughout their lives, have not had an issue with shutdown yet. the old jmicron lag and startup lag i have had, but shutdowns go relatively well.

so i guess what i am saying is, try to nail down the specific cause of the problem-without telling yourself it's got to be the ssd from the get go. even though it started at the same time, that does not mean it is those tweaks that caused your problem, that's a fallacy.

Probably clearing the page file at shut down option enabled?

Try here; http://www.overclock.net/ssd/821554-intel-x25-v-slow-shut-down-2.html
tried that ill see if it works, but it was set to 1 not 0 so that was probably the problem

I have 4 suggestions that *might* work that you can try.

1. Have you defragmented it? That could be why it's not shutting down very fast.

2. http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2008/06/create-shortcut-for-shutdown-restart.html

3. Tell your power button to cause shut down so you can just tap on the power button to shut it down. To do this go to your Display properties in control panel or right click on your desktop and go to properties.
- Click the screen saver tab
- Power
- Advanced and tell the power button to "Shut down"
(it's usually set this way by default, but going there and clicking OK makes it act differently)

4. Some versions of BIOS allow you to control what your power button does such as immediately shut the computer down when you press it, or shut the computer down when you hold it for a certain amount of time (usually 5 to 10 seconds). Search through your BIOS to see if there's a power button setting.

I'm assuming it's doing that due to it being fragmented which is usually the most likely cause. But there are some other, kind of neat tricks, you can try. Hope it helps...good luck!

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
+1 for dig's suggestions...

and please do not do #1 of what Arel said... you do NOT defragment SSD's!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe check the event manager see whats making the delay. You could try shutting down as many started apps as possible and see if any hang and if it still does..

Never defrag an SSD drive. You shorten their lives doing that. If you want a fast shut down disable the page file. The op didn't include how much RAM he has, so keep the page file if you have under 4 gigs RAM.
