If you want it as your C drive you will have to reinstall or copy the information to it. Some of the SSD drives come with software to do that. Or you can set it up as a D drive or E, F so on.

Get a Samsug 840 they come with really easy instructions. Any size is fine just no smaller than 120Gb

I'm looking at some amazing prices on refers at NE... So cost is issue
I'm thinking of running win 7 as boot disk and adding some other often used programs.
Does sata 2 or 3 change performance?

Yes, 2 or 3 = speed difference. Go with sata3 and you'll be happy :)

Absolutely reinstall windows on you ssd, along with any programs you'd like.

I just bought a Samsung 840 120Gb SSd from NE for $70. It was a shell shocker. Tigerdirect had the 250Gb for $140. SSD prices are dropping just look around. Its going into a laptop

Its listed as $180 right now but watch it will go back on sale in a couple of days. NE does that all the time

The 840 is being EOL sale-priced because of the 840EVO, $70 is the lowest I've seen for a 120GB 840 though so nice deal.

The only other thing to be aware of, is the smaller SSD's normally have a slower write speed than larger ones. But everything is relative, so not a big deal. Just something it's useful to keep in mind.

Smaller?
You mean size of the amount? Not physical? I read a bunch after starting thread
It looks like the Samsung 180 pro and ocz vector are fastest in head to head, but honestly ths differences will make so little real time... Funny on price I added the drive at 99 to cart and NE changed the price to 159 lol
One of these will go on sale soon
Thanks
Just saw 256 Samsung at sale 170 FYI
There is "evo pro bw" in Samsung land, any idea about how much quality/ speed changes between them?
Ok
Just read about Samsung
Yes google s my friend!
Looks like all 840 line runs fast, biggest difference seems ocz has 5 year warranty
Thanks again

Ok,
One source recommends ssd and a hybrid combination. Are there any requirements for using multiple ssd or ssd with hybrid?

Yes, a 120Gb drive will always be slower than the 240Gb in the same lineup (eg: Samsung 840 120Gb will always be slower than Samsuing 840 240Gb harddrive).

As seen has you have a WD HDD use their version of acronis and copy it too the SSD just remember to check things like auto de-frag and trim is working..

Done it for years now with 0 issues.

I'd hate to lose speed, I could always find new homes for fast hdd

no, and no. HDD's aren't even close to SATA II speed.
