Hi !
What are your system specs ? CPU ? RAM ? GPU ? OS ?
Do you have C-State enabled in the bios ? If AUTO, did you try to disable it ?
I didn't download your mp4 files.
You can upload those videos on https://streamable.com/ per example, for a better visibility.

even if it doesn't seem to make sense right away i would like to know the following:

how big is the total data of the game?
so the real size that you have downloaded.
or do you stream these games?

i would like a short list of the MAXIMUM requirements of the game.

What SSD hard drive are you using?

I have a sneaking suspicion

Is it all source games, or some? What I mean is, is this an issue with the game itself or just "anything source based". Because thats quite a bit spanning a large time period.
Older games, although easier to run, do sometimes have weird problems on modern machines. What game is it, specifically?

It's on all source games even when I open file explorer it freezes for a few seconds and I have poor performance on bf4 because of it

It’s a matter of filesystem overhead mainly.

For each file, the filesystem needs to create an entry, allocate one of more blocks on the drive to it, and finally copy the data to those blocks.

Depending on the filesystem it might also create checksum data so that upon reading the file back it can verify that the data stored matches the data that was originally written. This checksum data also needs to be written to the target disk.

This “housekeeping” needs to be performed on every file written to the disk, and takes approximately the same amount of time regardless of file size.

For a large file, once these operations are taken care of all that’s left for the drive to do is copy a series of full blocks of data one after the other from the source drive to the target drive, and drives are able to do this quite quickly because it’s a really simple, predictable operation that can be optimized in their firmware.

SSDs are better at small, random read/write operations than mechanical HDDs are, due to not having to physically move heads around to the desired location on the disk, but they still have to do alot of behind the scenes work when things are happening at random (from the drives standpoint) vs. just reading/writing a continuous stream of data.

For example writing a small amount of checksum data might actually involve reading a much larger “chunk” of existing data, adding the new data to it, erasing the original “chunk”, and replacing it with the new combined “chunk”.

This is because there is a minimum block size they can work with by design. If they make these blocks too small, they have to work with many blocks to handle large files, and this costs performance. Make them too big and you end up having to do more of these read/modify/erase/write cycles to avoid having partially filled blocks which is a waste of space.

With a large file, the disk drive or operating system driver software can fill a look-ahead buffer, making it more likely to be able to continuously read and write data, while copying individual small files involves a separate seek operation for each file, plus creating a directory entry and new file structure on the target system, so there is much more overhead that can’t make use of I/O buffering.

Do not nail me on this but this was the first thing it came to my mind just reading this sentence.
Put the old Games on a HDD and test the difference.

would appreciate a result of this act of rescueing your SSD.

how old is the HDD? how fast? 5400 or 7200 r/ps
post your motherboard please.
you have sata plugs 2.0 _ 3.0 or eSata?
which i5 CPU is it? specify please

i can smell some bottlenecks...
;)

I didn't have this problem before only after some software cleanup it happened
well then install all new from scratch. and avoid cheesy cleanup programs

for me the quadcore cannot handle the SSD the GPU and even not the RAM.
I assume bad/old transferring bandwith by an "outdated" motherboard as well.

Bugs Bunny GIF

;)

and the SSD cannot handle the floods of small data. as i wrote above

so this happens all the time while playing

it is!
the data are 15 years old. games 15 yrs ago were so small they had enough space on a single DVD.
today games are ~95GB huge. and their single data packages went bigger as well.

the CPU launched 7 years ago and had its end in 2017. the motherboard as well.
you just have to think it through - to the end and the result will be not surprising to say it kindly and fair.

i feel a bit sorry about that. but that was the reason why he gave nearly no information about his setup in general.
he was aware in parts.

my conclusion so far.

How is you pagefile set ?
I always set the max to 1,5x the amount of RAM I have.
SystemPropertiesAdvanced_Psm0BpquN3.png

I had stutters in Just Cause 3 & 4 once, because of the CPU C-State. Since I disabled it, I have no more stutters in any games.
C-State will try to save power and CPU life trying to disable cores, when they wake up you can feel stutters, especially on "bad coded" games.

You can disable C-State in your BIOS.

If it's not this CPU feature causing your stutters, you can save some CPU life (few months I guess) setting it back AUTO/On.

this is a 7yr "old" quadcore - CPU with 3,3Ghz @ max.
there is not much space for real outstanding performance.

and by the way mate your setting is not optimal not to say wrong. set every single drive on auto-system. see picture

Why would I want the system to auto reduce then auto expand the pagefile ??? It's on the fastest SSD I have and with a huge nonsense size to avoid Windows sabotage.

the pagefile, mate, was never my topic at any time.

i would not lean on informations thats published by microsoft, a software-company they have nothing to do with hardware.. this beside.

and before u disagree with my opinion in general i please u kindly to review the whole issue and tell me afterwards what you would inprove in detail.

for me the quadcore cannot handle the SSD the GPU and even not the RAM.
I assume bad/old transferring bandwith by an "outdated" motherboard as well.
and the SSD cannot handle the floods of small data. as i wrote above

LOL  :kookoo:

Because there are 8 core (and up) CPU's now, that doesn't mean that hardware was really that bad 6 or so years ago....

My i7 6700K works fine with the 4 SSD's I have, no issues, also gaming with my RTX 2070 Super is fine and oh, there's nothing wrong with my Asus Z170 motherboard...

no it was not at all but i guess u are not aware of the architecture of a game programmed 15 years ago and what this means for a SSD.
i strongly recommend u all guys. do not just read a part of the thread.
critisicsm is more than appreciated but it should have a foundation and be constructive

No offense but you said weird things so people react, it's just normal.
If the CPU is this one : i5 4440 https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...5-4440-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-30-ghz.html
It can handle SSDs/RAM/GPUs without issues.

About the pagefile, you told me what you think is "optimal", saying I am using it wrong. I linked you a Microsoft doc explaining what is the pagefile, what it is for and you told me :
i would not lean on informations thats published by microsoft, a software-company they have nothing to do with hardware.. this beside.
The pagefile is doing the job on the OS, build by them, interacting with the hardware, I think they know what they have done with it and why they have done it like it is.

About your "optimal" settings you told me about enabling it on every disks, if you didn't read the Microsoft Doc :

So, according to Microsoft, it's useless to let Windows use a page file on every disks, HDDs and slower SSDs, Windows will not even use them but only your fastest drive. I don't think you can easily overwhelm a Samsung 970 Evo with data on a page file whatever you are doing with your computer. Maybe a mad scientist can achieve this, who knows ?

I didn't have this problem before only after some software cleanup it happened
if you don't have a restore point to go back to (the clean up software didn't suggest it?!?) then i'd suggest considering going full nuked and fresh install the OS.

got a link to that software's page?
