I've played before, but I never remember the game being this buggy. It's the worst of the 3, even worse than SoC. Only things I saw in SoC were weird, silly things, like bodies in the camp fire, or snorks climbing ladders forever up into the sky...

Anyways, problems I've had are as follows:
•Game quasi-crashes to a black screen, but I can still hear things and act in the game (I can hear myself shooting, disabling Steam overlay fixes this)
•Game crashes to desktop, giving me an error about my video card not meeting game requirements
•Game crashes to desktop, giving the 'encountered a problem and needs to close' error

Those three happen at random. One more bug though, occurred when trying to travel from Yanov back to Zaton. The game loads Zaton and crashes as soon as it finishes loading.

I'm not sure what is going on here. I played CoP before, and I never had all this nonsense. I'm not running any program in the background. I don't know if it could be the game itself giving me the finger for some reason, or maybe the Complete mod, or my sound card, video card, or my video card overclock... haven't had problems running FAH or 3DMARK11 though.

You could try the patched executable from King (one for each game): https://sites.google.com/site/kingo64ssite/Home/patched-exes
If I remember correctly there was as problem with Dx10 and CoP.
It appears that you are running this game on Windows 8. Did you try changing the compatibility for the executable in its properties?

Are you running two different memory speeds and/or types? Not a good idea.
Your specs show the following: 2x1GB DDR3 1333 :: 2x1GB DDR2 800

Go to GSC forums, might be able to get some help there: http://gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums

I am running the Complete mod. Ironically, many blame the Complete mod for problems with travelling back to Zaton from Yanov...

I did patch CoP, with a different patcher though, to allow it to use more memory. I'm running CoP on DX11. I didn't change any compatibility settings. In my specs, that's 2 different machines. The 2x1GB DDR3 1333 in in my main machine, Starlifter. The DDR2 is for the other, Dragonfly.

no offense here but in other thread you flashed your videocard.
furmark +fm-marks are ok for quick test but games will really show if its stable. so this could be cause too?
and you say you allowed it to use more memory with 2x1gb installed? 2x2gb should be in every cp used for gaming

Sure did, but come to think of it I don't see many things that look like could be caused by a video card. Only the black screen thing, which seems to be a common problem that disabling the Steam overlay fixes. There is, however, the error message about my video card not meeting specs, which is odd...

Yeah, I know I need more memory. I'm wondering if erratic behavior isn't coming from lack of RAM, but that's one thing I can't afford to do at this moment. CoP however lists only 2GB in the recommended specs...

2gb recommended... without a mod... how about you just monitor your ram usage? both of the game process & of the system, see which one hits a limit

many 32bit exes have a limit at 2gb rather than 4 unless some flag is set in the compiler or something along those lines... so it's not unusual to have some processes crash at 2gb usage even if you have ton of free ram on a 64bit OS... speaking of which, windows virtualizes things so being out of system ram should mean page file usage + stuttering, NOT crashing (unless you purposely limited your pagefile, i would set it to a fixed double the ram size until 8gb)

Stalker is buggy as fuck, but I have never had these issues with the normal Steam release, no additional patching required.

I would definitely look at odd hardware config first and also running the game in DX9 or 10 may be better, tweak around a bit with graphics settings, some stuff is pretty taxing.

Getting the black screen crash again, even though the Steam overlay is disabled. I found a BIOS clocked higher than the regular BIOS for my card, yet set a good way lower than the TOP bios I tried. Heavily suspecting too high clocks at this point.

-ed So far, no more bad things... although it did crash once. When I opened the console and typed quit. Sometimes it actually tells me it crashed when I close the game.
