Starfield game patch version 1.9.67 just released, with official support for AMD FSR 3.0 and Intel XeSS. Support for the two performance enhancements was beta (experimental) until now. FSR 3.0 brings frame generation support to Starfield. The game had received DLSS 3 Frame Generation support in November 2023, but by then, FSR 3.0 support wasn't fully integrated with the game, as it had just began rolling out in September. The FSR 3.0 option now replaces the game's FSR 2.0 implementation. FSR 3.0 works on Radeon RX 7000 series and RX 6000 series graphics cards. The patch also fixes certain visual artifacts on machines with DLSS performance preset enabled.

Tried out Frame Gen in New Atlantis in the city and the surrounding countryside and it works damn well. Like seemingly perfectly, set monitor to 120 Hz, set Starfield to VSync, Framegen on, and Scaling to 100%. Occasional dips to 108 fps or so but not obvious on screen, there's a bit of latency as expected but its not gamebreaking in SF. None of the obvious visual errors I saw in Hogwarts Legacy tho now that I think of it, I was using the 7700 XT for HL and the 6800 XT for SF. I'll try out Hogwarts to see if it's magically better with the 6800 XT. Dammit I also have a 5800X3D now instead of the 5600.

Stupid variables...

Edit: never mind, Hogwarts uses generic driver level FG and not integrated into the game, which is way worse than native.

That de-escalated quickly then lol

I'm glad they finally implemented FSR3 now that nobody is left playing the game anymore.
Losers. They're too slow, this rate of integration for FSR3 is a pointless exercise

As a tech demo it seems to work well on planets where the broken engine limits framerates. This is the first game with FG built in that I've been able to test it and the tech seems decent for an RPG to give smoother framerates when I couldn't even lock it to 75fps previously. Notably the UI works properly with no noticeable artifacts, which has been a problem with some FG titles in the past.

I haven't been back to space though as it's Starfield, it's not that compelling to play. And the slight input lag of course wouldn't be good for any kind of fast-paced game. I forget who presented it this way but a good implementation does the job of frame smoothing very well. It's not the same as high framerates for gameplay but it's good for eliminating low fps judder for games stuck at 60fps or below.
