Steam slow download

Has steam been slow recently? For the last week I have been trying to download L4D and have not been able to get over 50/kbs. The first time I downloaded it it was fine (over 300/kbs). This time I am putting it on Windows7, I know that shouldn't have anything to do with it, but could it?

Wow, have you tried downloading elsewhere to make sure it wasn't on your end? I've always had great luck with steam...though if the particular game you're trying to get is popular that could bog ya down a bit, I usually don't d/l slower than 300k, and usually peak around 550k which is in-line with my connection. I don't think it's 7 tbh, I didn't have that issue on 7 Beta or RC...but others might have. Hope ya get it sorted.

When you aren't downloading, run it. When it finishes, start the download again. The speeds should mirror. If the Steam download is much slower than the test, I have to assume it is them.

Other downloads have been fine and its on the same computer that the last time I downloaded it was OK. I have restarted it many times and the download info is correct in Steam.

The speed has increased to about 150/kbs but my max is 9.2/mbs so I guess it is them. Does running speedtest boost your download or something?

Nope, it just monitors the transfer rate of an arbitrary download and upload. There are lots of servers to choose from that are close to you so it gives a better picture of your actual performance. When you download something from a site, you generally have no idea what server it is coming from.

go to the settings and check the download region. sometimes it would change to another country. set it back to taiwan if thats the case

Most likely just alot ppl trying to dl it if see it again at that speed go to isp and dl something and if that doesnt give you full speed then somethings up with the isp.
