It's the oil in your hands, it don't help either when you don't clean your mouse as oil rots rubber. I bet they go though a few revisions over time too.

Maybe not depends at all i think... my Sensei had serious problems with paint. That paint quality were just ridiculous for an $80 mouse.

I had the silver one back when it was released as cost a solid $100 and paint came of but that's to be expected sooner or later.
