First of all thanks to all you guys who helped me the other day with my heatsink/fan issues for my 1900XTX and Accelero X2. :respect: I'm not worthy... D_O_S, Markkleb, Zekrahminator, Wevvspot, WTF8269, Xdaxxchampxx and Steevo.

Now try this on...this is weird. I get the fan all 100%ed up and running just great. Idle temp is around 45C at max it never gets above 62C. Hours of Doom3, Chaos Theory, and HL2...same results. But what is extremely odd is that now my 3D Mark05 score is almost 1000 points less than what it was before I turned up the fan, and nearly 1800 points off of what it was when I let the ATI Catalyst software do the overclocking for me. (currently it is not overclocked at all--.25 beta of ATI Tools doesn't seem to quite like my card yet...s'ok...it's plenty fast enough for me as it is). But all I have done to the card is soup up the fan speed...that's all. No other changes, not even the Catalyst OC. Just stock right off the shelf settings and the 100% on the Accelero X2 fan that's it. I can't figure out what happened to those 1000 pts.

Does this make any sense at all?? Is it possible that the card LIKES to be in the 80 or 90C range? I thought the cooler the better?? :wtf:

No I sure haven't. This is the straight No AA 1024x768 free 3DMark05 tests.

That must be it xdax. Must be something in the ATI Tools beta holding it back. Untampered with I get almost 11000 in 3dMark 05. But damnit it runs hot. Is there any other way to keep the fan speed at 100% other than using ATI Tools? To be honest right now this card doesn't need OC'ing at all...just some serious airflow.

The new version of Rabit enables you to change fan settings of your bios.

you could always load up ati tool to get the fan use and then turn it off and the fan setting should stay untill you restart your comp thats what I do :toast:

Yeah I tried that and seems like it made the system unstable. 3DMark crashed, none of my games will open.

I think just turning the ATI Tools on screws with with the card settings. Seems as though if I turn ATI Tools on I have to KEEP it on...and let it drive. On the 'yes' 'no' box that starts when ATI Tools fires up...if I answer 'yes', I can alter the fan speed and still run my games...albiet a little slower I guess...if I say 'no' 2D is fine...but none of my 3D games will start at all...I get a blank screen. If I leave ATI Tools on stuff will run 3DMark runs, like I said above, but at about 1000 pts off. If I do the 'just use the fan' option and close it...nothing starts.

If anyone can think of anything else I'm open for any suggestions...everyone here has more experience with OCing than me. I'm going to try the Rabit bios utility suggested above when I get home. Maybe it'll let me JUST turn the fan up and nothing else, and maybe it'll leave everything else alone...we'll see.

Bigenuffumbrella, you can get an aftermarket cooling solution if you have problems with heat. I recommend the Zalman VF-900.

And I hope you saved your old settings, since it seems like your inexperence is killing your card if you keep continuing changes in RaBit if that is what you are doing currently. Just stick to overclocking.

Well I have an Accelero X2 strapped to it right now Cybie. And as far as I can tell nothing has been 'killed' yet. The card runs warm (without using the ATI Tools fan control), but no warmer than it did before I started trying find a way to adjust the fan...which is all I've done to it so far...besides the Accelero. If I can find a way to crank the fan on the Accelero up to 100% and stay stable I'll be very happy. This thing has plenty enough under the hood that I don't really need to OC it at all (this month anyway lol ) Even after playing for an hour or more in Doom3 or SC: Chaos Theory the card barely gets above 62C (with the fan up to 100%).

...and yes I have backed up the bios...just in case. I haven't had a lot of experience in OC'ing...but I know what I'm doing around a PC...I've been building them for 10 years. (Thanks for the newbie advice though...)

With the fan up to 100% using ATI Tools it seems as though I'm taking a performance hit somewhere and this is what I'm trying to find a solution to.

Well back to the drawing board. At least I didn't screw anything up. I followed W1zzard's instructions on how to flash your card bios and ATIflash just bounced right off of the card. I guess maybe it's not compatable. I got an error code of 0FL01 which scared the bejessus out of me until my card came back up on the reboot.

Back to the drawing board...
I'm still taking any and all ideas...

Boot up from floppy, CD or flashdrive. Use flashrom with command: "flashrom -f -p 0 [name_of_bios]" (name of bios can have 8 character max and no spaces).

Curiouser and curiouser...playing around with Flashrom to see what my problem might be...I gave it a "flashrom -i" which is list all ATI devices. The message I got back was that there were no ATI devices on my PC. What's up with that??:wtf:
