For months I've been invested in playing Star Wars Battlefront II, but recently decided to take a break from it (and the toxicity. Mostly the toxicity) and started playing The Sims 4 again. I'll be honest, I wasn't able to notice any problems while playing BF II, so the flickering could have been there all this time or not. However, I've definitely noticed the flickering since having picked Sims 4 back up. It happens both in-game (live mode/build & Buy Mode) and on the loading screens. On the loading screens, because the background is dark, I tend to REALLY notice it, and it hurts my eyes. As for in game settings, everything is set to ultra, and my refresh rate is set to 120Hz. That's down from 144Hz because I originally thought the flickering was due to the high refresh rate, but it still occurs on 120Hz.

So, is it the game? Is it my monitor? Or is my GTX 1660 Super already taking a crap?

Sims 4 is pretty old, try setting it to 60hz and see how it looks

^ Tried lowering the refresh rate to 60Hz just now. Still noticeable flickering. I've got the latest Game Ready drivers.

Do you have a spare video cable? Even in our digital video era bad or poor quality cables can cause weird issues. Also some older games seem to work better at 59hz ... might be worth a try.

I have the DP cable that came with my monitor. My main DP cable is a VESA certified one from Club3D. I'll try 59Hz.

try turning off gsync in nvidia control panel. that probably will stop the flickering. if not... then I have no idea.

(dont forget to turn it on in games that give you no flickering with it on) maybe try 144hz? sometimes if the monitor isnt at native everything it can act a little wacky?

so i'd say try those two things (one at a time) see if either of those fix it... doesn't your monitor go up to 165hz? try 165hz, should be smoother to your eyes than 120... just change overdrive mode in monitor settings to medium, not lowest or highest (sometimes they name it differently is only reason I specifically mention it that way)

Tried cranking it up to 165Hz in game settings last night. Tested it, and the flickering still happens. Same for pretty much every other possible refresh rate available in game (max being my monitor's max refresh rate of 165Hz). So now I'm going to test the other suggestion you mentioned and turn G-Sync off.

Edit: Also just checked the Overdrive setting on my monitor. It's already set to "Balanced" .

^ Yay! You're right, turning off G-Sync seems to have fixed the flickering issues! Didn't notice any flickering in game after I turned it off in the Nvidia Control Panel. I'm actually a bit relieved. My brain tends to always throw the worst-case scenario at me, and so I started fretting over possibly having to get a new GPU, lol.

Thanks again peeps! :lovetpu:

just leave your monitor at 165hz though, there is really no reason not to. just leave gsync off. if you ever go back to AMD gpu's, freesync should work just fine. some monitors just dont play nice with gsync
