Hi,

I have a strix 3090 since last year, running great but i was concerned about the temperatures

I have a 5900x, PSU is Seasonic Prime ultra 1000w, Rog Dark Hero VIII, EK Aio 360 push pull on the front of the case.

I've put some heatsinks on the gpu and a 80mm fan on the top of the backplate of my 3090
I've undervolted as well : 1920 @ 0.875

but it some games the memory temperature junction is still going up to 85 to 88c with fan at 100%, is that completely safe?
In most games temps are around 60c on core and 75/78 on MTJ

thanks

I think you should be okay, because your temp is lower than mine (same card). I have a lot of drives crammed in a Corsair 540

1830MHz @0.850mV, Memory Clock 1220 MHz, Temp: GPU 75C, Hot Spot 85C, Memory 92, Fan Speed 75%. I think the memory TJ Max is 110C?

110C is the limit for the VRAM, your GPU fan will ramp to 100% if that happens

under 100C is fine, 3090s just suck. Active watercooling on mine keeps it at 80C.

Hi

i've undervolted my Strix 3090 to 0.850 @ 1905 but i find my temps quite hot even with it

while playing some games like days gone, i have around 70c on core and 86c on memory

I game at 3840x1600, i've also put some heatsink and a fan on the backplate to cool vrm but not sure if it does something to be honest

I don't want to go on water for now or change thermal pads for warranty issues

Are those ok temps for this gpu even with an undervolt? I'm quite concerned by temps

If i go lower like 1850 for 0.8 will I lose a lot of performances?

Your temp is fine. Make sure you get plenty of air flow into your case.

I do :) i have my EK aio on the front, push pull,
lian li fans 120 on top, rear and intake

But i was worried about the temps since i've undervolted and having fans blasting actually

Your GPU fan speed is at 100%? Mine gets up to 64% to get to my temp.

i have this curve so yes around 85 % to 100 kinda, that's why i'm worried

I think your fan curve is a bit aggressive. You can tame it down a bit. This is mine -

0.85 is still fairly high, i'm at 0.740

you might find a huge drop in needed voltage and temps dropping even 50MHz

I've run as low as 1500Mhz and still been smashing 1440p 165Hz

i got the wrong sizes with my stock cooler but also backing them up, the gelids seem to be the best out there

i got more here i plan to put on my EK block and make the active VRAM cooling even shmexier

I'd like to do my VRM too but they need the odd 2.5 mm spacing, which doesn't exist. I figure I'll buy some 1.0 and 1.5 pads and mush them together. They remind me of slightly hardened and formed thermal paste, should work.. I think.. hopefully.

I've asked Asus and changing thermal pads at least in France will void my warranty.
I'm considering going full WC. but I lack skills and patience so i need some pro to do it for me and it's expensive

Well going to 1500 with a 3090 is a waste no?
i wanna stay at least at 1860mhz, seems 0.825 is stable but i haven't foud a big difference in temps, at least on memory but seems the UV affects more the core than memory non?

How is it possible since stock is around 1900? I don't understand How you won't lose any performance

because its already fast enough... oh no 200FPS down to 180, the shame

you gotta realise stock bounces around a LOT, and unless you're on custom water like me, will thermal throttle down low

I was seeing as low as 1400 under heavy loads when i tried air cooled vertical mount and it was choking for air

In my opinion, the temps look fine. While the custom fan curve looks aggressive, but at the end of the day, when the GPU heats up, and heat up it will, you will ultimately end up at 80 or 100% fan speed under load. The RTX 3090 is the top of the range GPU, so expected to run hot. Couple with the fact that this is a Strix that draws north of 350W under load with its 3x PCI-E 8 pin power connector, only means that it may run potentially hotter, but with a higher core clock. If you are concern due to the heat, you should consider capping framerates in game so that it will run smoothly, and the GPU don't have to work that hard. After all, you've tried undervolting and increasing fan speed, with some success.

Wow that alphacool link explained why EK sent a bunch of spare thermal pads with my 3090 blocks - in case the damn thing was warped out of shape!

I can't believe they say the VRM doesnt need thermal pads however, that seems really off

110C is the limit for the VRAM, your GPU fan will ramp to 100% if that happens

under 100C is fine, 3090s just suck. Active watercooling on mine keeps it at 80C.

Even with your loop it's still at 80c load, i don't think i would bother with a 3090 even if i had the dosh. I wonder if the top drawer 4xxx will run cooler?

It's only mining they hit that high, regular use is a lot lower

The 90's just got that design flaw of passively cooling potential heat monsters, i want my hardware to handle whatever load can be thrown at it... you never know what the future may bring
What if DIrectstorage ramps up the VRAM usage and 3090's become toasters on the topside?

Same, since 3080 Ti there's no reason to mess with a card that wasn't really designed well or not for high usage / gaming. 3090 Ti will allegedly fix that with no backsided vram anymore (doubled capacity in front side), if I had a 3090 vanilla, would've probably sold it a while ago and got a 3080 Ti instead. I mean this all, unless I'm a watercooler type of person which I'm not at the moment. It's a effective solution to the problem.
