Hi guys, nothing exciting to see here. Just trying to put the cheapest computer together for browsing the web for a friend.

He already has a case, DVD writer, Windows 7 and SD card reader from an old build so I'm going with these bits. Literally no preferences as far as AMD/Intel goes. I'm perfectly happy to go with the below, but just wanted to see if anyone knew anywhere I could make some savings/performance gains without affecting the price too much

I think performance gains will be hard to get, but I'd suggest either an AMD or Intel SOC to push prices even further down.

If any gaming is requested: AMD A4-5000 board
If no gaming is requested: Intel Celeron N3050 board

Both are more than sufficient for browsing. The AMD solution uses more power and will have a slight lead in gaming, but don't expect any miracles.

Browsing? anything low end from the last five years paired with a nice SSD will be overkill.

This. Where I live you can usually get nice HP Elite SFF systems with i3's/i5's for about €140 or so. Plop a SSD in it and you're flying. And at least the HP Elite systems are actually quite nice. Reasonbly silent, robust, easy to maintain...
