You could easily trim some cost by getting a Motherboard that isn't so expensive, and switching to the new Samsung RAM - SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600...

That stuff easily OC's to 2133, or could offer the same 1866 setup you were looking at.

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K, the 2600k hold no advantage for gaming over the 2500k.
CASE - go for one of the Cooler Master HAF series. Whichever one you fancy.
PSU - Change the PSU to a seasonic.
GL HF with ur build, hope you enjoy it.

Nice.;) Might I suggest you add an SSD? Or perhaps a copy of windows? Can add both, even, and be under $1500, but maybe not with taxes and shipping...

From what Ive read the D-14 isnt an issue in full size towers, so I have that going for me! Just trying to decide if I need/want additional fans...
Added Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - Oper... to the build and total came up to $1,432.95, perfectly withing my budget.

Is 16GB of RAM just overkill for gaming?

Yes but if you did video encoding or conversion or a lot of multitasking it may not be overkill.
$47.99 is cheap too.

While you are at MicroCenter, get the RAM, it is cheaper there than at NewEgg.
