2 core CPU's are no longer sufficient for newer gaming.

You really should upgrade the CPU, ram, and get an SSD. And might as well do power supply too. Socket J is 11 years old now. If you must keep the system you could do an X5470, they are about $35 on ebay, would give you a quad core setup.

As far as video goes, I'd do a 1060 6GB.

What is your overall budget? How much could you afford?

Surely you dont intend to game on this rig? might be better of tasking it as a cruncher.

There was this beast Xeon X5698 SLC32 (B1) 4.4 GHz:) 2 Core Different socket tho

Seeing as OP has a socket 771 it might be worth his while upgrading to a 771 Quad ( if his motherboard supports one )
    Such as
    Intel Quad-Core Xeon E/X/L 53xx–54xx

but You can find details here
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Xeon/Intel-Xeon X5698 - AT80614007314AA.html
    Released to asian Market
Xeon X5698 is shipped in HP and Dell servers
Jul 19, 2011: In March we reported on the fastest clocked x86 processor, manufactured by Intel. The microprocessor is Everest series Xeon X5698, that has 2 CPU cores, operating at impressive 4.4 GHz. Internally, the chip has 6 cores, but 4 of them are disabled.
    Can be bought thru EBAY
used to hold overclocking record for Xeons ( over 5Ghz )

Intels Ark database is missing a few entries
Obscure CPUs: Intel Xeon L5639 and X5679
May 01, 2011: Introduced in March 2010, Xeon 5600 family of server processors for dual-socket systems was refreshed in February of this year, bringing the total number of available models to more than 20. Specifications of these microprocessors are well known, and you can find them on our website or in the Intel ARK database. There are three Xeon 5600 CPUs that you won't find on Intel ARK site, though. One of them is a dual-core Xeon X5698, clocked at impressively high for x86 architecture 4.4 GHz. Two other SKUs, virtually unknown to public, are L5639 and X5679.

For $200, I'd say ebay an X5470 for $35 (check your motherboards compatibility first), GTX 960 4GB for $120, and either an SSD or a new power supply with the remaining money.

If that doesn't appeal to you, buy a 1060 3gb for $200 and hopefully your processor will be fast enough to handle the games you desire.

What graphics card do you use now?

There are always bundles on ebay for older i5, motherboard, and ram for around $200 if your current graphics is sufficient, I assume it isn't or you wouldnt be asking, but it might be worth doing it anyway.

I recommend replacing this CPU with something more powerful like Xeon X5450, X5460 or X5470. Check whether your motherboard supports these CPU's.
When you upgrade the CPU, buy used R7 370 4GB and you'll be fine. If this GPU is out of your budget, search for used R7 260X 2GB.
