So I'm trying to buy a new laptop w/ a discreet video card, and I've been told to stick w/ Nvidia because of Optimus. Not sure if there's a similar technology with AMD GPUs, as that would open up more options. But anyways, here's my understanding of current Nvidia options in the mobile space and it would be great if someone could tell me what is their equivalent performance to desktop GPUs.

GTX 675m = GTX 580m rebadge - top of the line single GPU (not counting the new 7990m)
GTX 670m = GTX 570m rebadge - second in terms of performance
GTX 660m = Kepler GPU - slightly less performance than 670m due to Kepler cores
GTX 650m = Kepler GPU - uses GDDR3 instead of the GDDR5 in GTX 660m
.
.
.
and not really interested in anything below a 650m.

Not just rebadges though since the 675M and 670M have higher clocks.

GTX 675M = GTX 560 Ti
--GTX 580M is slightly behind the 675M--
GTX 670M = GTX 560
--GTX 570M is slightly behind the 670M--
GTX 660M = GTX 550 Ti
GT 650M = GT 545/GTS 450

Awesome! How does the AMD 7970m and 6990m compare to the 675m?

Comparison
Sadly I cannot seem to link with the cards preselected, but the 7970 should the fastest of those cards, it scores around desktop GTX580 scores at synthetic tests.

Also, if the notebook supplier implements it, you should be able to use the AMD variant of optimus AMD implemented with their 7xxxM series. link.

they're not all rebadges. Nvidia made it confusing as dfgffag to figure out. There's like 8 versions of the gtx640 and gtx650 etc some are fermi rebrands, some are kepler gk104 based cards. There's a list floating out there, I forgot where but be careful, no card even of the same name is equal
