Suspected Asus Dual RX580-O8G issue with old vbios not having the "GOP" fix enabled

Greetings. Long time reader of Techpowerup but first time poster. I recently upgraded my CPU/Mobo/RAM to a 12600k/MSI Pro Z690-A/DDR4 combo. I'd like to keep my Asus Dual RX580-O8G video card for the near future.

I know Win 11 isn't exactly ready for prime time yet, but I'm curious about it and have read that having at 12th gen intel processor may be a corner case scenario where an upgrade from Win 10 is warranted. MS's PC Health Check app says my machine is now ready, but the update failed. In doing some research here, it appears that many 580 cards (mine included) suffer from a bug related to a "Graphics Output Protocol" support failure, where one cannot switch to UEFI from CSM/Legacy mode in the bios. Thankfully the bios/motherboard automatically switches back for CSM upon the failure of the card to work in UEFI mode.

I have no experience updating a card's vbios but I've combed thru the posts and references here enough to find the tools and gained a basic understanding of how to use them. I believe I've even found an updated vbios for my card here, downloaded it, and have it ready to flash.

What I'm posting here for now is that as this is my only video card which is somewhat capable, I'd like to have someone who knows what I'm talking about above to confirm for me that the bios I'm linking has been checked for and fixes the GOP support bug. Or someone who has done this already with a similar card. I know there are some risks in the process, but I'd at least like to know that if I take that risk it is likely to fix my issue and allow me to switch to the UEFI bios option. This card has no dual vbios option, and I fear bricking it or taking risks that may not even have the hoped for pay off.

Here is my GPU-Z output:

And I believe this is the most recent vbios listed in the techpowerup database for my card:

Has anyone gone thru this process with this same card, or able to tell if this vbios version addresses the GOP support bug?

The bios you linked will not work on your card, you have hynix memory and the bios you linked only has micron

The only bios files that will work from here are what matches your device id and subsystem id with hynix ram. Go to the advanced tab in gpu-z and verify if you have AJR or MJR ram...

These are the latest by date for your gpu ram.

@eidairaman1 Thank you for pointing out the difference of the memory! That's super helpful, and I hadn't yet noticed that.

I will post the advanced tab GPU-Z results this evening to see if it offers any more insight. This evening after work I'll also comb thru those two links to bios files that you posted above. I'm pretty sure that my current bios is dated 4/17/17. Perhaps one of the ones from that date though still has the GOP bug fix I'm seeking?

@JD47 Sorry it was one month newer! lol, I'll edit it, but yeah it fixed it first time.
Its random that fixes occur, i typically look for newer by year but his card doesnthave anything newer than 2017

Going to look over those bios options that @eidairaman1 linked...

Edit...But what is that 12/1/21 date? That I believe matches the date of the mobo bios, or maybe some MSI drivers I installed from the DVD which came with the mobo?

Edit2...I don't see the memory type specified in the advance tab like I was expecting

But if the latest build date of the potentially matching bios equals the GPU-Z's "release date" value, I'm SOL, right?

I took at quick look at what PBE is and it looks way above my pay grade :(

I may just have to live with Win 10 and CSM until I can find a decent replacement video card. I do appreciate the help and knowledge gained here. Hopefully my posts will point someone else in the right direction.

Just use 1 of the files specified with the above build date 2017 04 17
