Synology VPN setup

hi,

problems getting VPN server functiuon on Synology - latest DMS version as of today.

my local network - Asus AC3100 router 10.0.0.1
did go with NAS setup router with UPnP - I get a message this router does not pass compatible test, but seems it proceeds ok and the test connection is working.

However when I try to connect using my public external IP, I get a message the VPN server did not respond.
Lost on what is wrong here and how to resolve this.

ok, I can connect with the NAS local IP 10.0.0.2 - but I cannot connect using my public IP address.
Same from iPhone using my public IP address as the server, connecting over cellular from true external network.
Does this mean the forwarding is not working? How do I resolve this on the router?

I can ping my public IP from local network - no problem.

Yes, you need to make sure that the ports are forwarded on the WAN side. Some routers specify domain (LAN/WAN) when creating rules.

How do I resolve this on the router?

No idea, we dont know anything about your router. but you should be able to find it in the manual or poking around the interface. The above should help guide you.

I can ping my public IP from local network - no problem.

That doesnt mean anything, thats how networks work. Your GW is responding to a local address this is by design.

Also make sure that you dont need to specify the ports you are using in your app or VPN client. You should have too but it depends on your setup.

Got it resolved, adding manual forward port under Asus WAN setting works to access the VPN from outside network.
