System wont POST. Help appreciated.

UPDATE: Today I checked my CPU in my friend's motherboard( Asus M4A785TD V-EVO) and everything is perfect. It even overclocks the same as it did in my board. So my diagnosis was correct. And as for the mobo, I will call them tomorrow as they said.

Well update here, 14 days has passed and I haven't got my board back. After the initial 7 days, I complained to Asus global and they said that the board needs to be replaced and they are awaiting replacement from distributor. The service center is telling me the same thing! It is becoming impossible for me to pass the days without my desktop. I don't know whom to blame. Now it seems the complaints are not working! What should I do?

You might want to consider changing the PSU you're using(checked your specs) I googled and they don't seem to be awfully good.

@de.das.dude- LOL. But which one to buy next? Gigabyte has bad service rep too. They often give bent,scratched boards as replacement. You are using Asrock. How is their service support?

@brandonwh64- Yeah Asus service in India(atleast in Kolkata) is horrible. Previously, I got good service but it was just me. Everyone here has a negative feedback on Asus service. After they changed their service partner, I thought it will improve. But it has not. Atleast not for me.

@Tigger- Yeah I know. It is not that good. But it is serving me good as till now. I am sure it is not the PSU which killed the motherboard. It suddenly died after I cleaned it that day. So I must have done something wrong during the cleaning.

digicare always takes a month to process. If i am not wrong they used to rma intwl as well.

As for asrock, hopefully i wont have to find out about their customer service ....

Yeah they still RMA Intel and also does MSI and Kingston. As far as I knew, their service is pretty good but I have no idea what is happening now. They are saying that they are awaiting replacement from distributor. If that is true, then I doubt its Digicare. I suspect Rashi is playing the game since they are the distributor. Today I called Asus regional manager and he told me the same thing and even the service center person told me to contact him. I am totally confused. He said hopefully, it will be ready within this week. And if it is not, I am going to storm his office and teach him a lesson!

Urgent help needed

So they finally told me that an equivalent board cannot be found for replacement. They will give me a credit note. I asked the manager how much I will get( I paid 6150 Rs). He told me that I should get 5000 Rs above. He told me to go to Rashi (distributor) and they will give an upgraded higher end model as I say. I may have to pay extra. So which board should I get? I am short listing the M5A97 R2.0 or the M5A97 EVO R2.0. But I am totally confused about the prices. In www.flipkart.com the M5A97 R2.0 was selling at 7200 Rs. After the evening, it is at 8100.
Can anyone tell me the exact price of the board in India??
I will not get any LE board.

I had that idea actually but the only option I have from AsRock is the 970 Extreme 3 and 4. But I heard that the VRM is not that good. Any other options Can you tell me that if I get a M5A97, how much will it cost? And some other Asrock options keeping budget below Rs 7k.

970 evo isnt good. their jack quality is bad and the one i used in a system has a faulty 24pin connector and are refusing to correct it.

you can try to haggle the 970evo still, at rashi by adding a bit more. say 1000-2000rs. you will probably get a open box one. but if you want to stick to asus its still good.

i dont think getting an old series motherboard this late is a good idea. also steam roller will be am3+ compatible so thats all the more reason to get one.

Yeah I will be getting AM3+ only. Himadri is using the Extreme 4 and it is serving him good so far. But no overclocks done. And thanks a lot. Hope everything gets well. Another question, will I have to reinstall the OS again? If yes, can I do it without formatting the system drive?

I'd take the MSI 970A-G46 into consideration as well. It's VRM should be good for up to 250W long-term if there's enough airflow over the heatsink. Should be 5500-6000 Rs.

The 970 Extreme4 is good too, of course.

As for reinstalling Windows, you don't really need to do that, provided that the HDD controller is compatible with the existing driver. If it's not, you could always try your luck by setting it to IDE mode in BIOS and see if it works that way. If that doesn't work either, there are ways to change your HDD controller driver by manually editing the registry from a live OS (booted from CD or USB), but that may be more complicated for you than simply reinstalling.

I don't expect you'd be able to simply repair install your OS unless it's Win XP, and not formatting your OS partition could prove to be a nuisance later on - rather back up your data from the OS partition and do a clean install. You could use Hiren's Boot CD (or something similar) for that.

Asus issued me Rs 5390 as credit note which I will have to collect after about 2 days. I am really happy because it was used 2 years and lost around Rs 750. But I am happy. I got the Asus M5A97 R2.0 today for Rs 6700, plugged everything and bingo my desktop- SHE'S ALIVE! Very good motherboard I must say. CPU overclocked to 3.7 GHz at stock volts of 1.38-No issues, NB at 2.8 GHz and RAMs at 1600 MHz. BIOS is a breeze. Though it has mouse support, I am still using the keyboard for tweaking the BIOS. Thanks everyone for your continued support.

No I booted it up straight and most of the drivers were installed. Afterwards, I installed the drivers from the disc that came and everything is perfect. I managed to show the non present devices by using an environment variable something like devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1. Then I opened Device manager and clicked on "Show hidden devices. There, I found all the devices that were on my old motherboard and uninstalled them one by one. So this might help other people as well.
As for the overclock, no issues so far. I have set 1.375 V in BIOS and it averages at 1.32-1.33 at load(LLC off). Pretty good.

Only one issue bugs me. I had to re-rate the WEI. So after it completed, I was shocked to see the RAM score 5.9(got 7.8 on my old board). I knew that very moment that some amount of RAM must be shared with something. To my surprise, Windows shows full 4 GB. However, AVG PC Tuneup 2011, which previously showed me 4.0 GB on my old board is now showing 3.92 GB. I know this WEI thingy that if your RAM is anywhere below 4 GB, then it will be fixed at 5.9 no matter how fast it is. Moreover, I checked with AIDA memory benchmarks and the scores are very good like I got previously. So I wonder which device is stealing that 81 MB of RAM and how I can stop it from doing so?

ps i think also got that ram issue when changing boards. i went away after the OS reinstall.

even if you uninstall it from the manager. a ton of shit gets left behind in the registry. and thats a bit difficult to remove manually since a lot of stuff is amd/ati.

LOL no impossible. Soumyajit gets 7.4 with Transcend 4 GB single channel value RAM. I am pretty much certain it is some UEFI BIOS or something issue and is related to the amount of memory and not speed. Even my friend Satyaki with 2*4 GB Corsair value select RAM is getting 7.9 now after upgrading his GPU to a 7790.

No idea. But I think it is the amount which is playing the game. I am gonna try with Ubuntu.

Anyways, here's my memory benchmark. Not too bad for a Phenom II X4 I think.

I am running 1600 MHz 8-9-8-24, 1.56V just like I did on my previous board.

A request: Can you share your mem benchmark with AIDA? This 5.9/7.9 is driving me nuts.
