Hello
I bought this T9300 processor from ebay China for 14usd$ as "NEW".
It has a lot of heavy scratches\cracks in die ?

What is going on with it ?
- It seems to work but for how long ?
- Is it really new ?
- I'm worried what Chinese have done to it. What does that chinese symbol mean ?
- Should I try money back guarantee ?

See picture for scratches\cracks: ( Some smaller white spots are dust particles and Samsung S6 mobile phone camera is also visible )

I'd ask for a return/replacement. I ordered a chinese T7700 and received a T7200 recently, asked for a return or replacement and he sent me a T7700 a few months later.

Doesn't look cracked to me just scratched and it's probably fine.

Just so you know that's not the actual die , that's just a protective layer. If you feel like it return it I guess.

So this is normal for a new never used Intel T9300 processor ?
- I have never seen such deep scratches on a new processor ?
- What caused them ?
- It is like diamond filed or such...

Idk why but from my phone it looks like bubbles from plastic and not scratches

But if it where me I’d definitely ask for a replacement. It’s illegal to claim new when it has signs of use

Well first of all a T9300 is more than a decade old , even if the "Chinese" didn't try to claim it was new you should be well aware you are probably never going to find this CPU new. As far as used CPUs go , if it works I see no reason to return but again , if you feel like it go ahead.

It does to me too on this 24" monitor. Make sure that is not thin film protective cover first. If they are real scratches, I'd say it is not "new".

Why would there be a plastic film on top of the die ?
Never heard of that ?
It is inside the laptop already temps are 30-40*C.

Chips like these if new sometimes ship with a plastic film on them to prevent scratches.

Now I'm not sure temperatures are alright.
If there would be a film I think the temps would be higher ?
I rubbed it also with alcohol when installing and anything didn't peel off.

if there really was a film , the laptop would shut down due to overheating the moment you would do something on it.

30-40 is exactly what to expect at idle.

Idle temperatures normally wouldn’t be a tell tell. It’s when a load is put in it that you would notice the difference. But again I’m not even sure if that’s the case. It’s just how it looks from my device.

Not eaxcatly true. Most laptops throttle before shutting down and most have a temp ceiling upto 100*C

Runned also youtube 1080p simpsons. :D
None of those programs put load on the CPU

And with a plastic film you'd be guaranteed to hit that temperature pretty fast. I had a Core 2 Duo on a desktop and replaced the cooler and forgot the plastic cover on it and it would shutdown in a matter of seconds , wouldn't even make it to Windows.

Anyone bought a china ebay core2duo CPU like: T8300, T9300, T9500 or X9000 and could confirm they really have a film when new ?

I would let the seller know, show the photos, and see what they do. They may refund it and tell you to keep it, in which case might as well continue to use but keep an eye on it, or they may resend you a new one, then you can throw this one away if you don't like it.

It is probably not new, they part out old corporate computers and sell the remnants.

Laptops are different from desktop variants

With a desktop yes it will shutdown

Laptops on the other hand will downclock as low as 600MHz depending on CPU to prevent thermal shutdown. I had a laptop running on toothpaste and it hit upward 90*C under load and never shutdown and it was a C2D.

Laptops are expected to run much higher temps than the desktop variants due to the limited cooling capacitiy and areas they are normally used in.

I think we are on a witch hunt for problems that don't really exist.

Just to be sure once and for all download CPU-Z and use the stress CPU feature in Bench tab and tell us what temperatures you get after 2-3 minutes.

That seriously looks like a plastic covering... on the bottom corners, you can see where it is peeled up a bit, and in the middle you can see the spots where it is well-adhered to the surface, as opposed to most of it being not so well adhered (the darker parts where light isn't reflecting as much.)

If those really are scratches, then the bottom corners must also be crushed a bit, in which case, I'd return it... But we're all just going on the picture. Maybe get a better, clearer picture?
