State and local sales tax I believe are the only taxes you have to worry about.

I know for a fact New York has a sales tax

Yeah when I built this computer, it was only 3 months after New York implemented online sales taxes. It really did hurt the wallet :(

It depends. If Valve is registered in your state, they must collect sales tax on the purchase as any business would. If they are not registered in your state, it depends on state law on whether or not there is an online tax overriding the state tax which includes out of state taxing. AFAIK, Valve is only registered to conduct business in Texas.

Not trying to start a political debate, but that was an "idea" (like the THOUSANDS they plow through every day) that was left in to see how people would react.

And yeah, it's come down so anyone buying now will pay 15%, but even so, with the exchange rate I paid less for my 1 copy of L4D than you can buy it brand new in the shops, so it's not all bad, and for a 4 pack it's even cheaper (basically buy 3 get 1 free).

Just one more reason to buy games in stores instead of Steam.

Right you are. Gearbox Software was founded in Texas (among others). No idea why I drew that assumption. XD

    Bastards, indeed. :(

Me and a friend collect old deadstock and new Nike shoes.
I once bought a pair of Nike Air Max 1 Supreme's that cost me $180 on Ebay.
I had to pay 19% tax and a extra tax for importing sneakers:confused::nutkick: and the fee for the shoes being processed by customs.
It came to a total of $80 tax. The most ridiculous thing was that they also let me pay tax over the $40 shipping costs that was included in the $180.:slap:

    Damn taxes.

You too? It suddenly ended on newegg.

Not sure if Steam taxes. I'll ask my friend.

Anyways, the state can only tax sales if the purchase is from a company based in the same state or has heavy influence in the state you live in.

    Steam taxed me at 17.5%
which means it's probably cheaper to go buy l4d in a shop actually.
