Forget about getting any help there. Regardless of how well curated the ads are on TPU, they'll see them as nasty ads regardless and will continue trying to block them, regardless of whether they break everything or not.

are hosted on tpucdn.com, which is evidently sufficient for easylist to nuke all of tpucdn.com.

Yeah, I'm glad that I haven't relied on a third-party list like that for a long time now. uMatrix and full custom ftw!

Signing in redirects me to the forums, where I'm already logged in

uBlock disabled on TPU and just to make sure it wasn't Firefox I disabled momentarily tracking protection

Just a heads up, today's adblock update nukes a lot of images on our site. Not sure why someone thought they'd block everything with "data-width" attribute (which is used to tell the image viewing lightbox the actual size of the image, before downloading)

seriously filter is working as expected its TPU trying to bypass the filters that caused all this (don't put adverts in the same folder as content and use the same path naming scheme in a attempt to force people to turn off adblock No nahun no way jose )

the entire https://tpucdn.com/* has been blacklisted because repeated attempts where made to filter only the ads only to be defeated by random path generation and adverts being injected into the same path using a filename scramble and other such shenanigans

This makes more sense than anything I've read so far and why all the images and icons were being blocked whem this started happening and the statement from UB/ AB that url's were changing and all of a sudden filter updates whacked everything in the same location.

LMAO.

This is not the EasyList maintainers being difficult. This is W1zzard continuously trying to circumvent the filters that those guys have put in place. Which makes users mad because either ads are no longer being blocked, or things that shouldn't be blocked are. So they post issues on EasyList GitHub, which the maintainers have to spend their own (unpaid free) time to investigate and rectify.

And finally, those maintainers have got tired of playing whack-a-mole with W1zzard, and he's just found out the hard way that if they get pissed off, they can be an 800-pound gorilla that smacks your site down by essentially blacklisting all images. Does this suck? Yes. Is it entirely W1zzard's fault? Also, yes. Am I surprised? Not in the slightest; I saw this coming months ago, the first time W1zzard posted a "plz bug EasyList to unblock us" bar on the front page.

How do we fix it? We don't; W1zzard does. By going wizard hat in hand to the EasyList maintainers, promising he won't try any adblock-circumventing tricks again, and begging for TPU to be restored. My popcorn is ready.

To restore missing images while using uBlock Origin (and probably also ABP) on this site just add @@tpucdn.com to the My Filters tab in the extension settings (docs). That way you don't need to turn it off completely and all the images seem to work normally.

Hmmm, for the record, with MS Edge, I use AdGuard AdBlocker and sure enough, as soon as I disabled it and refreshed the page, avatars appeared. AdGuard Adblocker does use EasyList, but my avatar appears fine on other sites. So I agree with Assimilator - the problem is due to a recent change here at TPU, and here alone.

In the meantime, for uBlock users, an alternative would be to whitelist the forums themselves by adding
techpowerup.com/forums/*
to the trusted sites list
That will unbreak the forums' use of tpucdn for image loading.

I get all my pictures back and some other things that were broken such as the star system under the avatars and 0 ads still.

Fwiw, I'm using Vivaldi (with no plugins/extensions) and its built-in ad blocker still manages to mess up the images in the forums. I should check whether they're aware of this.
Switching to just blocking trackers fixes the problem.

A new green banner now appears at the top of pages that says,

If you encounter missing images, turn off your ad blocker. This is not something we did, they updated their filters to be way too broad, blocking most of our images.

My problem with "they updated their filters" is, why does my avatar, images, smilies, etc. all appear just fine on every - "every" other site I visit using this same browser and same ad blocker? This includes other sites that use XenForo too. (Example)

So I am having problems accepting this is something caused by ad blocker filters - unless for some reason the ad blocker filters are targeting TPU explicitly. Is that likely? If so, why would they do that?

I accept that TPU may not have just recently done anything [consciously] to cause this. Perhaps XenForo made a recent change that now conflicts with something TPU did in the past. IDK. I'm a hardware guy so clearly this is just me guessing.

I just know if my ad blocker properly displays my exact same avatar file and other images on "every "other site I visit just fine, and the problem appears only on TPU, it seems unlikely the problem is my system or my ad blocker.

For me, the problem was ghostery: as soon as i enabled trusted on TPU, the images issues went away, with the exception of the stars that ALSO require to enable trust on ublock origin.

Funny thing is i thought i had TPU as trusted in ghostery for years now ... didn't notice it wasn't until today ...

Well that sucks! Can't you rattle their cage and get them to change that?

If they won't listen to you, I bet you can get results if you start a little campaign where a few 1000 TPU members send them a polite email/petition asking them nicely to remove their TPU target. I'm just saying... .

So people, for those of you having issues with images and page elements not showing up on TPU and a few other sites, whitelist TPU and the problem goes away here. For other sites you can always disable EasyList and just use AdGuard, which is excellent in it's own right. Most adblockers allow a user to enable or disable individual lists.

Not sure about that

Seems to me w1zzard is trying pretty hard to work those few adds on the home page around add blockers
So maybe advertisers are now insisting on it and is why things are going as it is atm.

Personally I don't care I never go to the home page except for a polls because that's where they are placed.
Everything else is on the forums pages.

But just like a couple websites like mikes hardware/... they insist on add blocker being disabled plus added that nasty ass jwplayer too lol
I haven't been there in a long time and never will.
