I think it might have been a day, chosen so people would get notifications for the new content, IIRC.

This reminds of the times when I create something, implement something, solve something etc, come back to it some time later and think, "how the f* did I do that?!! " and have to work it all out again.

I can always look at the code, just too lazy :)

Websites slow here - initial page loading has upto 5 second delay before anything happens

I'm using Adguard DNS, but that's usually quite reliable

Ok here in sunny Blighty.

@Mussels is it still bad for you? Perhaps try turning off adguard for a moment and see if it resolves the problem.

Now that i've gone through a few pages its fine, it reminded me of the times the anti-spam security was watching me too closely

Edit: other US websites are slow as well, this is an international issue or a DDoS attack on one of the big hosters again

Edit Edit: even google DNS is slow, so sharks are eating the fiber optics again.
Or the Emu's are DDoS'ing our military.

Okay, here's what i'm seeing today: It's not DNS because i loaded that same link three times in a row so it should have been cached

This was recorded at 360p to save bandwidth and time, so it will look like pure garbage no matter what.

16 seconds to load a single page...

Must be something related to your connection.

The site loads normally for me.

And we definitely would have seen a plethora of complaints if it had anything specific to do with TPU's connectivity.

I see no impeded network connectivity based on my usage of the site during the past 24 hour timeframe. And I'm on a ghetto DSL line via a consumer-grade VPN service right now.

Agreed, i've got my ISP looking into it as well. It just went from fast to slow out of nowhere, when everything else is fast.

Well fire up your smartphone, turn off wifi connectivity and then visit TPU.

My guess is that it will perform normally.

This is not a TPU issue.

You been reading these threads in the past? We've seen all sorts of unique mystery issues hit people including IP bans for viewing the forums logged out, to myself being flagged as a spammer for opening too many tabs at once.

W1zz is the only one who can give that answer

I'm not sure which threads you're referring to. I read a lot of threads here that I don't bother keeping track of. When the site had severe availability issues earlier in the year, I probably stayed away for about a month. From what I gather there was some sort of server transition but it was hard for me to connect so I rarely visited.

I still visit TPU fairly regularly (per my registration date and message/day count) but I post less these days. I'm often connected to a VPN (for a variety of reasons) and logging out is more of a hassle than staying connected to the VPN.

As for viewing the forums not logged in, that's my primary behavior. I only log in when I think I might want to post something. This is not specific to TPU or tech forums in general, it pertains to pretty much any Q&A forum (including non-technical ones) that I've participated in over the past 15-20 years. In my password manager app, there are probably 100 sites that I have created accounts for and posted just a handful of times.

Hell, you can still read Usenet and Reddit without logging in, I don't see why this is such a big deal. Sometimes there are subforums that aren't visible to people who aren't logged in, like buying/selling forums. This is not unique to TPU, there are plenty of vBulletin sites from ages ago that restricted access visibility to some subforums unless one was logged in. I'm cool with that: if I want to view those subforums I log in.

Anyhow a large part of this is due to my current preference in browsing in incognito/stealth mode. The web browser blows away cookies when I exit. There is little point in logging into the site as a spectator. Of course, I've been browsing anonymously before incognito mode became a common feature in Internet browsers.

It is easy enough to troubleshoot network connectivity using a couple of networks and devices these days. It's not like I'm chained to one computer on one broadband connection like 1997.

Regardless of what the site operator's explanation is, if I can't easily get to this site, I'm not going out of my way to visit it.

But people might find out the budget ISP i'm with and hurt my feelings:

nope since the issue damn well came back, too
Sorry to hear that. Did you try turning off adguard as a test? Doesn't sound like it's that, but it doesn't hurt to eliminate the possibility.

Adguard affects traceroute?

That's why Mussels should use another device (like a smartphone or tablet) to test broadband performance. That can rule out something specific to a particular system or it could narrow the problem to the ISP.

But for sure the problem is not with TPU. I am not seeing any network performance issues and as I mentioned earlier if there were widespread issues TPU community members would have screamed bloody murder by now.

I'm not saying it affects traceroute, but it could affect page loading. Trying another device and a different network is good too.

Yes, it's my DNS server - so i changed it back to google DNS as an earlier step

@cvaldes being adguard DNS, yes it can. What's odd is that it's not all traffic or websites, and TPU is the only one with such a large slowdown.

Hell i'll clear my cache and stuff, could be as dumb as that.

I don't know anything about Adguard DNS although I use Adguard in most of my Windows browsers. My Mac uses the Wipr content blocking extension for Safari.

As far as I can tell, Adguard (the web browser extension) doesn't change DNS systemwide.

My iPhone and iPad don't have any special DNS configurations.

At home, I use Quad 9 (9.9.9.9) as my primary DNS server and Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) as my secondary DNS server on my DSL router overriding my ISP's DNS servers. I did this deliberately so if something goes haywire with my home Internet, that's probably the first thing I'd revert if I verified on my iPhone that everything functioned correctly on the cellular data connection.
