Temperatures reading Sensor vs Software

Sup people.

I have a curiosity my Motherboard ( Rog Maximus XI Extreme has a small display ( kinda of sensor ) which can be set to show CPU temps/Voltage/Clock speed/fan speed and other things, i have noticed that the temp shown on Realtemp/ Afterburner or any other software doesn't match with the one shown in the small display ( sensor ) on my Motherboard there's at least 10c difference the temps read by the softwares are higher than the one shown on the small display, my curiosity is: what should i trust, the temps read by the small display or the one read by the softwares?

This is the display ( sensor ) i was talking about.

I would put more trust into Realtemp or Hwinfo64 reading from the on-die temperature sensor if was me.

But a sensor it's something on the Motherboard and should be more accurate while a Software is a third party tool, but maybe i am wrong :rolleyes:

How would a sensor on the motherboard be more accurate over the sensor on the CPU die? That's most likely where your 10° difference is coming from.

Usually the sensor is reporting to a chip on the board such as this ite chip also used to control case fans through the fan headers.

Motherboard sensors are in/on the socket, software reads from sensors inside the die. That difference in location can be important.
