I would say about half the time it is but other times it will be used for 3D as well I just need a second view on things. other times I will just work on it because it has better contrast than my benq (my eyes are weird so I could be wrong) so I would use photoshop etc.

If the second monitor isn't used for heavy 3D tasks, then enable the iGPU and connect the second monitor..takes off the extra workload on the dGPU and idle temps will drop.

dont rma that card nothing is wrong with my 380x idles at 45-50c with stock fan profile. I modded the fan profile so at idle the fan is at 46% and its idling at 39-40c now and games around 75c sometimes a little lower. theese cards can hit theese higher temps. some coolers are better then others. in that review temp testing was done at 100% fans and 40% but not the stock profiles with my stock profile the fans dont hit 100% without 90+c temps I mean my card isnt the same card but has a similar cooler and the temps on yours are a bit high I bet some fan profile tweaking will bring it around.

I have the same card. I'm running it with a slight overclock without a custom fan curve. It idles at around 35c. When gaming it is usually in the high 70's.

Stock fan curve on the 390/390x is dumb. The only card I have seen that runs cool is the gigabyte one (under 70-75c load@4k) I personally don't like the xfx cards. Wouldn't surprise me if yours was bad out of the box.

O please, chances are the fan profile is just low settings as this will prolong fan life while still keeping the card way cooler enough.

All the 290\390 series have higher temps when using dual displays regardless what company sold it.

Just put a 390 cooler on my 290X and it's a pretty dam good cooler.

And dam as if i would trust GIGA warranty wise.

I put these cards in quite a few machines I am just going off of personal experience more issues from XFX cards than the others that I have seen. The gigabyte warranty is garbage, the card however seems to hold its own.

Thing is there is nothing wrong with the OP's card it's all normal that the min temps are higher due to having dual displays.

And i am going by mine after having a bunch of XFX cards XFX have always been there may it be for query or problem, and to put a graphics card in some one elses system from a company that you cannot trust IF some thing does go wrong is really bad even more so when you have to tell them they are out of luck for 2-3 weeks, well maybe more with giga.

Kinda of target here but all so same shit with HDD's some are set against Seagate drives ( me included ) and totally support WD drives, but they never really support both sides.

Like hell there aint a chance in hell i would touch a ASUS or GIGA product and when it comes down to it most of these cards are reference and it's more likely be a problem with none reference cards.

Well I just got it today, so newegg will probably replace it and hopefully it will be worry free.
I hope you were able to get that card replaced? Those were definitely unusually high temps for a XFX R9 390 DD XXX OC. Not high enough to kill the card, but you're paying for superior cooling on that model and yours just wasn't behaving as expected.

As a reference, I have two monitors on my Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OC and I idle at ~ 32. I've never seen it get above the low 70s under gaming loads or benchmarks. The fan noise is barely noticeable and yours should be as well.

Powercolor and Sapphire ones have a similar profile, never seen either go over 73c

No the vapor chamber exploded. It became common place with the 7950 DD cards.

Sheesh :(, that's some bad luck. Well i skipped the whole 7k range, i bet they changed the supplier after that crap.

Did they cover the card under warranty ?. Seen so many other brands burn up but not that, and i mean literally.

From reports at first they didn't cover them, then a shit ton of them started popping and they went into oh shit mode. No idea if they changed supplier, but ever since them I have quite honestly considered them second tier cards. Currently from what I have seen they overclock like second tier cards as well...

Sapphire had a bout with them as well it wasn't limited to just xfx
this was about the time they figured out they needed to install pressure-relief-plugs in things containing volatile liquids , that get subjected to repeated heating

I ended up figuring out the issue (at least I hope) But now the temps get pretty low compared to what it was. I removed a PCI Sound card I had in there and I guess that was blocking it? I also adjusted some fans on my CPU cooler (had them bringing air in from the back which was weird). I also updated to the lastest drivers just in case. Don't know what my idles are, but my loads are 50c-65c ish(at least as much as I can tell, I've only played counterstrike and it only went as high as 54c)! I was also having a bit of a problem with FPS drops but doing all of this, even though I don't know what it was, fixed a lot of my main issues.

I didn't RMA, cause it doesn't seem like there was anything wrong with it after doing more research on temps with R9 390s, been on reddit quite a bit to find out, reading past threads.
so i took a chance because, well, I need the card. But after doing this everything seems to be running a LOT cooler than it originally was. I am in the process of getting more/better fans for my case so it should drop more? Either way things are looking up!

EDIT: Checking my idle temps, it is at 43c! Thats about 11c lower than it was before! Thats pretty awesome considering what I had before, I really think getting better fans for the front of the case will help me out, I'm just not using very good ones

Glad to hear you figured things out and your temps are back down to where they should be for that card. Get the fans that you want based on your noise tolerance, but I'd bet that now you've corrected the major airflow problems you'll only see minimal improvements with additional changes.

Software Windows10
I also want to mention, that I never thought XFX had such a weird (or bad?) rep. Growing up and building my first computer I thought of them as just really all around great company. Kind of a shame that people feel this way. I just didn't want to spend the extra (don't know how much) on sapphire etc. XFX always seemed appealing to me. But it sounds like everyone seems to think it was/is a "bad" choice in manufacturer. Is it really all that bad? Is one really that much better than the other? or is it all just preference.

No such thing as a perfect company, lets face it they all made a mistakes it's only human nature. I fully understand how cdawall feels about it but if we did that to all these company's we would not be able to build a PC.

XFX treated me well over the many years i been buying their cards but sadly one of the main reason i buy their card is due to warranty one which they don't offer on current gen and if i see another company with a better warranty that i can trust well their is a good chance of me buying from it.

How ever MSI \Gigabyte \ ASUS have done me wrong on warranty's so they are not on the top of my list at least when the guys in the thread that cdawall posted they sent new cards with in a week or so and good luck to ya if you think ASUS MSI or GIGA will respond so fast but surly they do some times.

I do wish XFX offered a 5-6 year warranty and not the lame ass crap you get with every other? company.

Only issue i had was with a AMD reference cooler which was on a XFX card so that's not their fault so same here.

But shit happens to all
