Is it just me, or is that really poor? 40gbps should be able to deliver 5000MB/s, and 16 ~500MB/s drives in RAID 0 should easily reach even that. Why is the speed almost slashed in half?

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.

Is it just me, or is that really poor? 40gbps should be able to deliver 5000MB/s, and 16 ~500MB/s drives in RAID 0 should easily reach even that. Why is the speed almost slashed in half?
It might be bifurcating the SATA lanes or it might just not have the fanciest controller. There's no mention of the OS used and my guess is that it's likely to be a controller optimised for mechanical drives anyway.

I suspect the real appeal of this is the single-cable direct from DAS that can deliver faster scrubbing/transfer speeds than either 10Gbps ethernet or 10Gbps USB
