Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
2 years ago I got rid of a raidmax unit I bought as a temp after my corsair HX1000 melted my motherboard. The raidmax (as I expected) started giving me issues shortly after. I RMAd the unit and bought a Seasonic 1200 platinum. You dont hold up the rest of your parts with a $40 PSU as they say so I spoiled myself. It was around $280 when I bought it. All the bells and whistels of the series of course.

Yesterday afternoon my roof collapsed. My office and everything in it are destroyed. I recently bought the house from a family member that was going to lose it. Too keep it in the family I bought it on the cheap (it had around 10k left on the mortgage) The house needed work and as such my quote for insurance was more than I could afford so I didnt get it and decided to ride it out until the wedding in the next few months was over and done with and I could put money toward repairs.

So naturally I cant claim on anything iv lost because there is no one to contact. My main machine was in that room along with alot of other tools and electronics me and my fiance use. My monitors were cracked and destroyed from the ceiling, My peripherals are all water logged and no longer working.

There was alot of water on the floor and my UPS was flooded and shocked my fiance when she got home and attempted to unplug it.

My machine was on a little roller tray and was actually off the ground about 1/4". I also dont leave my machine on I shut it down everynight because electricity costs money. After the initial freak out and cleanup and calls to try and get new quotes on a roof replacement I cant afford I came into work today because missing a day isnt an option.

I brought my machine into my shop and after getting some customers out of the way I began the tear down to see how boned I was.

I am still pretty boned, however all of my HDD/SSDs pass and my GPU is in my bench machine and im typing on it right now. My board and CPU have yet to be booted but my water cooler pump is working on a machine next to me. I have all my data backed up so it honestly wouldnt kill me to lose them but they are expensive to replace if I needed to do all of them.

My PSU however didnt make it. It provides no power has no water damage and no scoring on the modular cables. Given how off the ground it was and the fact that my UPS was water logged and destroyed I can only come to the conclusion that the UPS urged and the PSU took it for the team.

I havent tested all of my parts, and honestly my PC is the least of my concerns given my situation and the fact that even if it did work I cant use it.

I would like to spread the word though and I want to praise SS a bit, if that is indeed what happened while it is a bit heart breaking it is the reason I bought it. and if the board and CPU work it did what I wanted it to do.

I wont by RMAing it, it seems sketchy and unfair to the company. However I have nothing but praise for the product and will happily when the bank allows buy another unit.

Thank you Seasonic for saving me hundreds of dollars in a full rebuild.

Glad to hear you and your's are okay.
Life lesson: ALWAYS insure what you can't pay to replace. Home owners's insurance is CHEAP. Also, never file a claim for something that you can afford to pay for. Filing a claim will raise your rates, seemingly, forever. (advice from Clarke Howard)
Thanks for the integrity of not RMA'ing it, but it might be worth it to contact them to see about a repair. Be upfront with them - they might even replace it under warranty anyway.
????There might be tax write offs for the storm damage????

I totally agree with @thebluebumblebee on this one. Contact Seasonic and just, as he stated, be up front and tell them the story that you stated in your original post. Heck, you just never know what they will say. At the very least they may be able to

repair the PSU and save ya some more bucks.

hope your fiancé is in good health after shock.

One good thing about USA vs Euro electric is we use a 15 amp limited 120V system for most outlets. Your body can generally withstand this for a brief shock with no issues (despite what Thomas Edison predicted), albeit it is still highly unpleasant. And given the UPS was flooded there is no guarantee of course 120V/15Amp was the output at that point.

I too am wishing you the best of a bad situation. I've always maintained there is nothing worth than flooding but truth be told there is: Flooding and a collapsed roof. Good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes, yes she is absolutely fine given the circumstances. I am trying to call around for assistance but you know bureaucracy can be. We are cleaning up the best we can, unfortunately I don't have the funds to get an entire new roof (which unfortunately I need I've had 2 companies out and 1 quote was for 8k the other 10 for modified bitumen) but I hope something will come along soon.

Damn Solaris that sux!! Glad everyone is ok !! My good friend about 20 years ago was renting my mom's house it's a 1920's with lap and plaster, but the cement type stuff. Well low and behold the 1 night he slept on the couch, the ceiling over the bedroom collapsed and crashed over the bed and floor. Just the luck of the draw he wasn't in there . It was a few hundred pound's of crap !

Any how it wouldn't hurt to ask Seasonic since it seems it did do it's job ! It could be covered just the way they do business. Worst they can say is I'm sorry, or it would be $XX for repair ?

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Im glad YOU are OK.. these 'things' can and will get replaced.

that said, anything that got wet and is NOT physically damaged, let it dry out if you can and try it before you count them as a loss. I put my motherboards in the dishwasher bud (granted, there isn't any power going to them...). ;)

Wow, sympathy to you, Solaris17... been there a few years ago. Luckily, my insurance covered it. Still was a pain in the arse. Had to live in an apartment for almost a year. House was unlivable, so had to wait for the repair.
Glad your fiancé is OK.

Wishing you all the best... try not to stress, 'cause it will try to creep in.

Thanks I think I will reach out to them, if anything ehy should know that atleast with the survival of some parts there product made my day not as bad as it could have been I mean most companies hear when they do horribly maybe the CSR will think its a nice change of pace.

Iv dishwashed a few things before, I might try it oin my KB etc when I have time and see what comes of it.

I will try not too. Last night after the craziness we were both exhausted and its still a battle to keep the room dry, I did mention to her though that atleast with a hole that big it would make running the data drops to those walls easier. She didnt think it was that funny, I thought it was great. I am a bit stressed over getting it repaired, I have no fesable way to do it atm to be completely candid, however I dont plan on letting it get to me. After its all said and done there are many more years left to live in the house and life in general and something else just as impactful will come along and I will need to deal with that then as well. Such is life.

As was stated the important things are all OK, you might check in NY they have a victims fund. For people who need money but can not afford it, its a pretty good ideal. If I was closer to you id offer to help do it, again Very sorry!!!!

You know there is SOME good to come of it other than the obvious safety concerns. I actually about a month ago bought a glass desk from target online for like $70 its great and the biggest desk I've ever had. Survived no problem. I was actually surprised considering the ceiling had the force to literally shatter and mangle my monitor(s) chassis and periphs. but the cheap sub $100 glass desk didnt care at all.

good thing too, I really like that desk.

@Solaris17 , you and your fiancé are getting to see a side of each other that most couples don't get to experience before marriage - what you're like when the s__t hits the fan. Don't forget each other during this.

Damn Sol...Glad the family is OK. Clouds have a tendency to have a silver lining and hopefully it is just right around the corner. Hopefully it all gets worked out soon.

And definitely contact SS to let them know that their product performed admirably and saved quite a bit of gear by sacrificing itself.

Very happy to hear that everyone is safe and unharmed. Gotta say, electricity is something that can be really scary; even the slightest shocks scare me

I wish I lived closer to be able to help our with your roof issues... hope it's not too crazy. But if you need a quick fix, should be able to just throw some plywood over the hole and then grab a tarp from your local store to cover it up, should last a decent while. I can imagine you've quite a lot of rain because of the storm that rolled through; we have too. I hope for the best for you! :)

Oh, and the news of the Seasonic is good too. Quality product, glad I grabbed one when I did.

the roof has a really decent sized hole, cantaloupe size about. The surrounding plywood is soft enough to push a screw driver through, some of the tar came off other sections exposing the bare wood (tam) sorry if this isn't coming oit right, on my phone now and auto scrolling doesn't play nice with mobile browsers.

a ceiling fan used to be in the middle of that.

the rest of that ceiling is bad it's soggy and jist hasent fallen, the roof above that is bad for feet in each direction. The entire roof is soft, have to kind of hop from joist to joist when on it
