Thats why i recommend getting 16GB - for gamers who like to play games on max settings+graphics mods

hi guys :toast:

as you can see in the picture below ram usage almost 10 GB in GTA V with these awesome graphics mods :
- VisualV 1.0.290
- NaturalVision Photorealistic GTA V 1.4 (1080p or 1440p - Normal Version)
- L.A. Roads [OIV] 2.0
- L.A. Roads Patch 2.7 [OIV]
- L.A Vegetation OIV Installer 2.0
- Real Freeway Signs 0.2.1

Graphics card memory usage = 5051 MB
RAM usage = 9811 MB

what im trying to say if you have a good graphics card with a good cpu ( for example i5-6600k or i7-6700k + GTX 1070 8GB ) , if you like to play games at max settings with graphics mods
i think
you need 16GB of ram to get the best and all performance of your graphics and cpu .

i remember when i was searching before i build my gaming PC
many channels on youtube saying 8GB is enough

in my opinion its not enough IF you use graphics mods , because it will maybe bottleneck your cpu and gpu a little bit , and also for peace of mind

but its just my opinion , not all games or mods use lot of ram .

That's amount of RAM that YOU need. It doesn't mean that every gaming rig needs 16GB of RAM.

i know , and i agree with you .
but if you read what i was saying above you will understand me .

Well 16GB should be pretty much default when buying a NEW system nowadays if not going for a budget build. RAM prices are quite reasonable currently, although they have gone up some the last few moths. Most games are fine with 8GB though, so even with mods one doesn't absolutely need 16GB.

i think there is no 12GB DDR4 ram kit for desktop PC , most of the rams that i see 4GB , 8GB , 16GB , 32GB , 64GB

and you already using more than 8GB , i didn’t say everyone "like me" or have their own needs " like me "

it was just advice for people who plan to play games on max settings + with graphics mods

for most gamers , yeah 8 GB is enough

but for extreme gamers who like to play everything on max settings + graphics mods , i recommend 16 GB ram
and its not mean you actully need 16gb ram in every single game , its just for peace of mind that you get the best performance of your cpu and gpu ( without bottleneck )

i think the title of this tread a little bit misleading , my bad , but i can’t find option to change it

Gaming laptops have come a long way in the past few years. My current laptop has 3 4gb ddr4 ram sticks, it has one slot left.

Research the Eurocom tornado F5 and see how optimized it is. Its a 15 inch laptop with a desktop processor and desktop level 1070 in a 6.5lb unit. This laptop will be a business and gaming machine, it replaces my current laptop with 16gb of ram.

Funny thing is that the laptop gtx1070 has more cuda cores (at lower clock) than the desktop version of it.

sorry i didn’t notice , and i forget to say im talking about desktop PC

yeah , 8+8+4 good idea maybe , but kits usually have better value if you plan to make your ram 16GB or higher in the future

lets say you bought 8gb , then you bought 4gb stick = 12 gb
then if you need more ram in future for some reason = 16gb - 20gb max limit in the future "if you buy 4 or 8gb single stick .. with your current 8+8+4 "

if you say buy another 16gb single stick , i will say its not worth it , single stick 2133mhz ~2400mhz 80$ or more

while you can get 16gb 3000mhz or 3200mhz for same price or less

+

also i have question for all of you guys
im wondering wouldn't this effect performance ?

using different ram capacity for example ( 8 + 8 + 4 ) + using 3 sticks instead of 4 or 2 sticks ?

because skylake and and older have dual channel
not like extreme x99 platform quad channel

i mean will this perform exactly as matched rams ? i care even if its small difference
and it will not make problems with XMP ?
thank you very much guys for all the info and opinions :toast:

Arbitrary...lol. Good warning for those that mod this title! :)

8GB is fine for most, but if 16GB is within budget, I agree with getting it. Over that, unless you know you use close to/over 16GB, is a waste of cash.

And the award for longest thread title ever, and guaranteed thread visit goes to......the OP!:slap:

I'm of the opinion myself that 16 GB is on the verge of being the new 8, since many games are now taking systems over 8 GB. But.....it won't always be good for older systems, and may not be what everyone needs right now, still. A less heavyhanded approach might have been better.

That's amount of RAM that YOU need. It doesn't mean that every gaming rig needs 16GB of RAM.
Actually, that's the amount of RAM he is "using", not what he "needs". Big difference! When you "need" more RAM than you have (or virtual memory anyway), you "run out of memory".

Game developers know most gamers cannot afford monster gaming rigs so they code games to provide good "game play" on lessor systems. Look at the system requirements for GTA V. The minimum is only 4GB while the recommended is just 8GB.

Gaming laptops have come a long way in the past few years.
Yes but because notebook users are demanding notebooks be lighter and thinner, the concept of "gaming notebooks" and "desktop replacements" will always be a flawed concept.

im not fan of gaming laptops... ...there are not optimized for best performance , because of the battery and small heatsinks
The battery has nothing to do with it (at least when plugged into the charger). The small heatsink is a small part of the problem but the biggest issue is case cooling - or rather lack of it. Makers can pack the power of a PC into a notebook case but not the cooling. Consider the fact even full towers are challenged to provide a sufficient flow of cool air through the case. It is no wonder a tiny, extra thin notebook case is challenged. Also, notebook cases are not designed for "normal" users to be opened up for necessary thorough cleaning of heat trapping dust.

For those reasons, I agree with you and contend there is no such thing as a good "gaming notebook" or "desktop replacement" notebook. Those terms are just fluffed up marketing hype.

Any gaming computer I build today, and in the past year even, I've put 16GB of RAM in. Why? Because RAM is cheap, and it might not be that way in the future, so put it in now and be confident you'll have what you need for a long while. Heck, I put 16GB in most "office" computers I build these days too. The only time I put 8GB, and 8GB is the minimum I'll put in a build, is when there is an extreme budget.

I put 16GB in almost all our builds too - not just because it is cheap (though that's a big reason). But because RAM models have a tendency to go out of production. And while mixing RAM is not the problem it used to be, just ensuring compatibility 2, 3, 4 years down the road can be a headache. Plus, more and more clients are opting for µATX boards that have only 2 RAM slots. Buying more than enough now ensures they won't have to toss out 2 perfectly good 4GB sticks to make room for 2 x 8GB.

Uuh what a shitstorm.

GTA is a title where I've seen biggest RAM consumtion ever. Almost thinking it is a leak actually. Long gaming sessions go past 12GB even without mods.

So whatever he has a point. Biggest VRAM hog was Shadow of Mordor. Cannot explain really why.
