@Lillebror - I'm voting for AC S1 + any 120mm fan (low noise prefferably). Fits 4xxx series just fine, and cools like crazy with 120mm fan :)

I've heared that VF900 ain't that much better than stock cooler of 4870 cards, specialy if you tune your fan speeds a bit on it.

Btw, if you want extreme cooler, you can always pick up 2x 140mm fans and stick them on same S1 heatsink :D

y wont the AA setting work? I tried to set it at 4x AA "edge-detect" but when i ran GRID, i still see jagged edge same as i didnt turn anything on. I tried to turn off AA at the menu, but still wont budge.

Edge detect filter is a Custom filter and as per ATI specifications won't work in games where their maker employ custom AA filtering. GRID is one of those games, as is Crysis. In GRID use only AA in game menu.

Does AMD GPU CLOCK TOOL work with 8.7 beta's and two cards? I get SET CLOCK FAILED error on the second card always. It used to work fine with 8.7 official but now it gives same error with those too :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

No problem here with 8.7 betas. But I have Overdrive completely disabled and fan settings changed via bios.

I have the fan adjusted via bios also. I'll try disabling Overdrive all together.

EDIT: reinstalled drivers, left Overdrive on OFF, same thing. AMD GPU Tool is the latest version. Oh well...

Why are some of you using the old 8.7 betas with 8.7's released? If you are having problems with them use the proper drivers.

Ah, one thing, AMD GPU Tool require checking driver signature to be off (as far as I know :) ). Try ReadyDriverPlus from DNA drivers.

EDIT: Ok, maybe not, I'm using version 9.8

Because 8.7 beta have higher version number? 8.520 vs 8.512
I have no idea if 8.7 full offer any fixes over betas but I do know it has lower performance in Crysis on my computer. I have a save game in graphic heavy place and after installing 8.7 I got 4 fps less (from 32 to 28 fps).

my problem is..., i cant go higher than 710/1060, and in furmark just stable at 690/1060
do you change vgpu for higher clock?, how do it?, can i just reflash it?, or another way to go higher clock?

thanks...

Reflash for higher vGPU. But for 4850 max voltage for GPU as set in bios is around 1.2V only. For serious overclock you have to do a voltmod (hardware or pencil).

You can just reflash it to 1.2v, which gets most people 720MHz. Just dump your bios with GPU-z, or download one from TPU's database(I recommend MSI's, because of it's improved Powerplay). Then edit it with the newest RBE, set voltage to 1.2v. Flash the new modded bios with either ATIWinflash, or ATIFlash...I personally use Winflash, most people don't like it, and I had 2 bad flashes with it. I started using it in CMD, as it takes the same commands as ATIFlash, and I haven't had a bad flash since.

8.7 beta's are older regardless of what number. Use 8.7's

OP updated to include water cooling of the 4870. If anyone is interesting in water cooling your 4850/4870 I suggest that you keep the OEM front plate with fan on the video card. It should not hinder your water block. I would keep fan speed about the same so that your vregs/etc are properly cooled.

I made an attempt to overclock my HD4870 as well. I have much experience with cpu overclocking but not with this (did test with my 7600 and flashed it). Let's see how this goes.
The 1st thing I did was alter my bios because of the high temps. I am now beneath 50-55C at all times (as you can see at the temp in the photo, made right after the score popped up).

Watercooling (6L): Water reservoir

Thanks,

Ambient was 22.5C. I was using default cooling and stock voltages.
Oh and on the photo you can see my 7600GS with Zalman cooler. I now have another 12cm fan (one behind and one after my HD case) to cool the GFX card.

Oh wait a sec. I didn't watercool the 4870 if that was what you were thinking. It's the standard cooling solution (for now).
