I grabbed a 3090 ti after a particularly profitable work week and a possible bout of bad judgement (that I refuse to undo...)

I will post photos when it arrives. It's the evga ftw3 variant.
Honestly, that's exactly how I felt when I ordered my 3080 Ti.

4200 Ti -> HD 4850 -> GTX 660 -> GTX 1060 6G -> 3080 Ti
One of them doesn't fit the pattern ;)

As you probably guessed from my status, it arrived.

Card is stupid fast, smells like a new car, and I have almost no time to use it... lol. I did get some time to play Elder Scrolls Online today and that game it just chews up and spits out 4K@120hz no prob. I think the minimum frame rate I saw was in the hundred and some odd frame numbers, and that was rare.

Nice.

Not so nice is I completely forget to photograph it in my excitement. Which means you are going to have to settle for photos later on when I feel like taking my rig apart. I know, I feel guilty too. But the card weighs a metric butt-ton so the e-leash thing is actually like a necessity, and I don't want to move it too much without reason.

I've not actually had any triple-fan cards before, so you can probably imagine my surprise at the size of the TUF. The weight not so much, because 7970 GHz Vapor-X says hi ;) I like the way the FTW3 cards look, but after actually trying to fit it in the case I immediately appreciated the TUF being 2.5 slot.

Just starting to mess with undervolt. Out of the box it was ~1950 @ 1.08V, 290W 68C I think? No problem keeping cool but the flow-through cooler was taking a dump all over my 2x16 B-die and it was displeased..................right now it's at 1980MHz @ 0.925V, about 250W and still 65C. Maybe further, but I am keeping my expectations in check because G6X (which runs cool, 70 or so)

I did give up the whole loop just for this card though - TUF too big for Core P3, didn't like the Bykski look, didn't know if 280mm would hold up, etc. The cheap brace is very handy because the TUF is a little saggy (finstack does not join with the I/O plate), I'm using long-ass hex M3x25mm countersunk from the Cerberus 3D printed power socket extension DIY.

I love a build where it all fits so neatly, that looks great man. It's the main reason I recently bought a Meshify compact. Fits my new card beautifully (a few mms to spare) cools it extremely well and it looks like all the components were made for each other.

Thanks man. Not many of my builds I feel are "just right", but this is one of them. The bottom 2 x 140mm intakes really shine with a higher TDP GPU; I can finally properly appreciate that. 1070 was too low power to care and 2060S FE cooler was too garbo to care. It really runs like a top with the undervolt profile. I was bracing for the worst but at its usual 200-250W it's very manageable.

The 3070 Ti actually draws less power most of the time than my old 2060 Super. In lighter games it's down in double digits while my 2060S was still 150W. Most noticeably, on multi-monitor idle it only draws about 15-20 watts. My 2060 Super was always at 45 watts idle because of the two monitors, and no way to change that behaviour even when waterblocked.

First attempt at undervolting my 3080 Ti, I followed some guide on YT which basically was:
- run Heaven for some time, see what boost clocks are (they settle around 1830 after 10 or so minutes)
- in Afterburner set -250 Mhz offset on core
- set curve to 1815 Mhz at 0.875 V - nothing crashed, clocks were rock solid during the entire benchmark
1652108343929.png

72C on core, hotspot at 80C, memory at 92C avg. All at around 300W compared to 345W at stock.

Any tips?

This is how I undervolt

+120mhz Core Clock offset is just an example, try +180mhz.

This way of undervolt can prevent your 3080Ti from downclocking agressively when hitting the power limit

Upgraded from my 3080 10 GB GPU to the 3090 Ti. Got a good deal on the Gigabyte 3090 Ti Xtreme Waterforce:

Temps have been really good. While folding, the temp stays around 47 degrees C. I haven't messed with undervolting.

Yeah I opted for this on my second attempt but still near that peak 300W of power consumption.

I created multiple undervolt profiles and toggle them in game to see which on works best: 750mV, 800mV, 850mV and 900mV

I'm at 800mv 1600MHz because i lost my AB profile and forgot about fine tuning it, oops. Good thing you reminded me.
(I've been able to keep it sub 300W by not OCing the VRAM)

Is there a way to just type the damn volts and MHz you want, rather than fart about with the stupid graph?

Edit: 1600Mhz 750mv, dying light 1 (160FPS/capped)
Max 235W (in this game), 410W for entire system w/ screens

Select a V/F point, press <Enter> and input an offset value (i.e. +150), cannot input actual core clocks though.

You can change the V/F curve X/Y value in MSI config file so that each V/F point is further apart, easier to select them

I am pretty happy with my 3080.

In Afterburner set a -300Mhz offset on core then set a curve to 1875Mhz at 0.850V
It is around a year that has been running with those settings and never has crashed

Hey what's up, I'm visiting to just dip my toes in the 30xx series pool. I know the water is good but just doing research on what variant to buy and tracking prices. Currently on a GTX 1060 6GB and thinking that the RTX 3060 would be a big upgrade, particularly since I won't be going beyond 1080p 60fps gaming any time soon. I'm on a 5600X so CPU isn't a limiting factor.

Any recommendations on which model to go for? I'm thinking triple-fan cooler would be pretty nice. All of my current options are:
  • Gigabyte RTX 3060 Eagle OC LHR 12GB (AU$629)
  • MSI RTX 3060 Ventus 2X OC 12GB (AU$649)
  • Gigabyte RTX 3060 Gaming OC LHR 12GB (AU$659)
  • Gigabyte RTX 3060 Vision OC LHR 12GB (AU$659)
  • ASUS RTX 3060 KO Gaming LHR 12GB (AU$679)
  • ASUS RTX 3060 TUF Gaming OC LHR 12GB (AU$699)
  • Gigabyte RTX 3060 Aorus Elite LHR 12GB (AU$699)
And then the RTX 3060 Ti's (at least the decent ones) start at around AU$849 which is a bit too much of a price jump for me. But prices are still coming down right now, so we'll see how things pan out over the next few weeks.

To decrease power consumption, to lower VRAM temp, some cards perform better when undervolted? Take your pick.

This has been asked and answered so many times in this thread alone...

why the hell wouldnt we want to undervolt them? You only want to overclock hardware that isn't fast enough.

That's like asking why should people drive fast cars at <50km/h in the city when those cars are capable of driving >300km/h ;).

More like if the RPM gauge on the dash maxes out at 10K RPM, why would i ever change gears and make that number slower?
