Perhaps a 3090 around Christmas with a TV upgrade as well a nice Sony Oled or an 8K if prices are within reason...can't wait to experience that 8K @ 60 fps...But let the ampere hysteria die down a little...in the mean time wait to see what AMD got up its sleeves and may be Intel will be forced to make an early release of their new Processor line with PCI E 4...

It's all due to the choice to use Samsung's 8nm to save money. I suspect that even if they wanted for this to not be a paper launch they couldn't have done it, I have considerable doubts that Nvidia got any real volume of chips from Samsung.

I know of no similar products of this size and power envelope being developed on this node, there is a reason no one else touched it besides Nvidia.

The GA102 in the 3080 has almost a quarter of the SMs disabled, I don't think they did that for product segmentation, they did it because yields must be that bad.

Oh boy here in 3rd world country I can just go in and grab an Asus 3080 TUF for 750usd + tax. Probably down to the economy are not doing so good so few people can afford these cards LOL.
But I'm gonna wait for the 3090 anyways, no point in upgrading 3080 from 2080 Ti

Yeah, I got a 2070 Super for the price of a 2060 in last year's Black Friday, and I only game at 1440p - a 3000-series GPU would be wasted on me.

My plan is to wait for the 3000-series, RDNA2, and new consoles to drive the prices of 4K displays down to the point where they cost around the same as 1080p does now. I'll then upgrade to a pair of those displays halfway through this product cycle, and likely pick up an RTX 4000/AMD equivalent 6 months after those cards are released. I reckon that even midrange RTX 4000 GPUs will be capable of 4K and will finally bring performance parity for raytraced vs rasterised workloads, which will make RTX 2000 => RTX 4000 an excellent upgrade path.

And if this 2070 Super starts getting long in the tooth, I'll have plenty of second-hand RTX 2080 Supers and 2080 Tis to choose from.

I built my pc last week in preparation for it however with the nightmare of yesterday, i purchased a RX580 8GB today so i could at least use the pc.

Will probably end up cancelling the 3080 order and wait for the dust to settle.
