Here's a very readable article on the benefits of HDMI 2.0b, from Yahoo (with its misspelled title) of all places. Check it out.

This is probably the most important bit of advice in the whole article. Don't let that electronics store salesman fool you into buying unnecessary expensive new HDMI cables.

The best news: as with previous jumps, and unlike the upcoming HDMI 2.1, HDMI 2.0b does not require different cables than what you’re already using.

I don't even know if it's related, but it pisses me off that I can't get a lot of HDR/4k features running computer apps, like I can easily get on a SmartTV. Something to do with all of the DRM crap and HDMI/DP/HDCP. Netflix on Windows doesn't run HDR options for me.

Luckily, I got my 4K BD Drive to finally play movies.. after a huge runaround (you have to install Intel Software Extensions, can ONLY play through an Intel GPU with Kaby Lake and above, and have the HDCP requirements... lmao). If only I could simply insert an HDMI plug into a GTX or Vega and get 4k... that's all I want. This all sucks.

/rantoff Sorry if I'm veering off course... but no amount of improvements will make me happy until they make this stuff easier. I was a staunch defender of copyrights once, but at this point, these organizations and companies deserve all the piracy they get.
