The BEST game story ever

I'm going to have to give the nod to Half Life 2. It's such an amazing story, and I am eagerly awaiting the next game in the franchise.

I wouldn't say the best, but some of my favorites are GTA: Vice City, Time Splitters: Future Perfect, CoD4 and Silent Hill 2. That's just off the top of my head, there's plenty more out there.

on TPS and RPG side i have to say mass effect 1 or dragon age: origins . the main story line in mass effect 2 pissed me off because of the stupid shit mentioned here http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=7004.

That link sums up the flaws of ME2, plot-wise, exceptionally well. No one should read it if they plan to beat the games though.

Eventually the game begins to suffer from cumulative plot hole damage: Once you notice a few holes in the story you start thinking about it more, which causes you to notice things that you might have otherwise overlooked. More leaks appear until eventually the bilge pumps of immersion can no longer keep up and the whole thing begins to sink. (And then the writers torpedo the thing in the last ten minutes anyway.)

However, I disagree with the "spend 75% of game on fun missions" part. They were fun the first time but borning everytime thereafter.

Well for me AC1 was better than AC2! I believe this has everything to do with the fact that I speak Arabic and the story takes place in Syrian and Palestinian (middle-eastern) cities in an important historical period. It really had so much religious and ideological depth to the conversations, unlike AC2. Whether you know it or not, AC1 even had sentences taken from the Quran (the Muslims' holy book) with the inclusion of many historical Muslim leaders and crusaders. AC2 covers a period (the renaissance) that I'm not familiar with, so I think I feel about it the same way you feel about AC1.

Fair enough. Still, that shows there were lots of writing flaws in both Assassin's Creeds. There are too many characters and most of them aren't memorable.

Max maype 2 gets my ultimate vote too, I can play it all in one sitting it's that good. In fact I remember doing that over a weekend one winter, LOVE IT.

honorable mention goes to halo 1-2 and 3, played back to back the story is epic, and I love the classic hero ending.

but alas no body has mentioned Perfect Dark which I lov to bits, and when I first played it though hardly comprehended the story, but it's completely bonkers and enthralling and I love it to bits, and can just keep coming back to it year after year, especially in HD on XBL.

Bioforge was epic in its day. Of course you about had to have Windows 3.1 with "out and back" in order to run it properly I had nothing but issues trying to run it on a Windows 95 system

And of course we must not leave out the original Doom from ID software in 1992

I vote Final Fantasy X. I think it even has the best supporting characters out there, imho. Hl2 characters were kinda 2 dimensional.

The more I read about Alpha Protocol the more I want to try it. I kinda for a half a second considered it during the sale, but didn't look into it in time. Now it's $22...I'll have to keep an eye on future sales.

I think of games like the original Red Faction, Max Payne, God of War I and II (I got out of consoles after the PS2), MGS series, etc. Some stories like those in World in Conflict and Freedom Fighters really struck a cord with me. I felt the original God of War was epic all the way around back in 2005. The Half Life series also has a solid story imho.

I've played Dragon Age and Mass Effect, enjoyed both. ME2...I tried it, but didn't get into it. Beyond that, nothing I can think of at this moment.

I couldn't follow the dialogs with all the names that sounded the same. The plot was basically unfollowable because of that. They addressed that problem to a large degree in Assassin's Creed II; however, I couldn't tell you the name of the main antagonist but I do remember the name of the protagonist (Ezio). That is still an area they need to work a lot on.

I know the differences between the names since my main ancestory is Italian so I suppose that helps differentiate the names.

If you could get past that the game would be very good or at least that is the case with me.

The main antagonist would be Rodrigo Borgia who is the leader of almost every enemy that Ezio has to kill to get through the story.

Still despite everything including the odd ending I would still give 10/10 to the opening of the story with how we see who Ezio is and his "role models".

Why? the Word or name Gman itself is synonymous to the word mindfucking.
-Max Payne 1 and 2(hopefully 3)
Why? The graphic novels, the dark atmosphere and the poetic sentences.
-Mass Effect 1 and 2(hopefully 3)
Why? Never seen a Space Shit Story this good since Star Wars.(and also KOTOR series cause its star wars and bioware also started it haha)
-Elder Scrolls Series(As a whole)
Why? The Massive Lore
-Metal Gear Solid series
Why? Its a tactical historical espionage sneaking sci fi military action anime story that is US friendly, but its japanese.

All of these games has great gameplay too!

EDIT: ASSASSINS CREED 1 and 2(and hopefully 3 also)
Why? Story to cool to even describe(must finish game 1 to fully understand whats going on)
