Avoid the Gigabyte 2060 OC.. horrible cooler. Just now another topic popped up....

And yet people keep buying that POS. Christ, GB should pull that model completely from their lineup, it's a PR nightmare.

Once again the RTX 2060 is a good card for 1080p gaming.

Hmm alright well I see the general consensus here on that particular model card is perhaps why it is the cheaper of the rtx 2060s. If that is the case then I'll have to rule out the 2060 for now. The next best is the msi 2060 ventus, but its way over at $620.
If I were lucky I would probably be able to find a 1080 for about $550. But as it stands, $500 and under is my budget. I may just bide my time instead.

To be honest my final thought on this thread is if the OP really wants to do 1080P @ 60 FPS just get a 580 8GB. With the money you save you can put a water block on the card and OC the hell out of it. Since you are a gamer you also get Division 2 (Gold) and World War Z for free so take another $140 off the cost.

RX580 plus water cooling will put its price close to GTX1660Ti/RTX2060 plus it is considerable amount of hassle. The range of performance you can get with non-extreme OC (which is not for weak-hearted) is RX590 or maybe just a little higher. This falls short of both GTX1660Ti and RTX2060 out-of-box performance. Both of these can usually be easily OC for close to 10% above stock.

Division 2 and World War Z are a good point. You do need to make sure to buy from participating retailer and before June 8th. https://www.amd.com/en/where-to-buy/promotions

The biggest hassle with Water cooling a GPU is over coming the fear of messing something up. NZXT has a solution for less than $50 that let's you take an Asetek based CPU AIO and use it to cool your GPU. Alphacool makes the EIswolf series that are also straight forward to install and enjoy for under $150. A full custom loop, with pastel coloured fluids like you see at trade shows and some LAN parties are indeed daunting though.

So, your suggestion is around $350 for notably slower performance than a RTX 2060 which can be found new for under that price.

A 580 is almost 40% slower than an RTX 2060... and for the same money that is an option???

Kraken G12 is ~$40 AUD, random 120mm AIO is ~$60 AUD. RX580 prices start around $300 AUD. These are minimums, I would go for at least somewhat better AIO. $400 AUD for RX580 that you still need to assemble and OC. Resulting performance expectation is roughly in the range of RX590. GTX1660Ti at $410 AUD is a much better deal here.

I can't believe that the 580 is that expensive. What about ones like the MSI Armor or Gigabyte Gaming those can be had for around $200 CAD. This proves that the PC market is the most volatile in any industry. I don't disagree that the 1660TI or 2060 are better cards but all the OP wants is 1080P 60 FPS, so for me those cards are overkill even a 570 or 1060 is good for 1080P gaming. The OP did say he would wait and maybe depending on performance Navi may drive down the prices of the 1660TI and 2060 and put them where they are supposed to be south of $250 everywhere.

So, your suggestion is around $350 for notably slower performance than a RTX 2060 which can be found new for under that price.

I honestly thought that it could be done for a littler under $250 but I did not realize that prices are that high for 580s

only one of the mentioned cards will do Origins at near 60 fps 1080 on ultra.. so the 2060 isnt overkill for the op needs..

also a 2060 may well be the best bang for buck but if it costs more than the op is willing to pay its out..

which brings us back to the 1660 ti or a used 1070.. and despite what earthdog says.. not always at ultra settings..

anyways this thread is going nowhere its all been said.. whoosh..

trog

ps.. games like Origins and Ghost Recon Wildlands are not poorly optimized they just follow my line of thinking.. ultra settings are for ultra hardware.. :)

Why wouldnt we use suggest the fastest card for the budget? Yes, many will produce more than 60 fps, but why give something that barely does does it?

Its in the list and within the budget. See first post.

Yeah....when the budget can afford it, let's get a lesser card and turn down the settings out of the gate.... wow. :kookoo:

Ghost Recon Wildlands
Weird how this title, a poorly optimized one out of the gate by all professional accounts (so bad out of the gate in fact that it was patched shortly after offering notable improvements), still manages 60 FPS at the highest canned setting using a mid-range card (GTX 1060) and reached 60 FPS.

That is not what I was suggesting water cooling a card is not to turn down the setting but unlock the training wheels. As far as the OPs original post the only card to buy is the 2060.

its odd that so many people have been brainwashed into thinking that lower mid range cards should all be able to hit 60 fps at ultra settings in all games..

this thinking dosnt make the slightest sense.. i have been playing wildlands a lot recently the graphics are very pretty at high very high or ultra.. there really is no need to run this game at ultra only for those that have been brainwashed into thinking they should be able to..

ether way the conditioning seems to be firmly implanted so i aint gonna change it.. he he

i have played wildlands on three different machines.. my 2080 ti desktop at 144 (ultra hardware) a 1060 15 inch laptop at 1080 (lower mid) and a new asus rog scar 17 inch 1070 laptop at 1080 (mid)..

the game plays nicely on all the machines i mention.. but only a fool would insist on ultra settings on all the machines.. i say no more..

My advice is to, unfortunately, wait until you can afford a quality 2060 (or equivalent). You will immediately (within 3 to 6 months) regret buying anything with less power than that. Games are not going to get less taxing and the prices of gpus are not going to drop significantly in the future.

Anything less than the 2060 and you'll be back here asking this same question before long.

Good luck on the purchase, now is a not a great time to be buying.

Edit: By equivalent I am suggesting 16 series, 20 series, or Navi.

Edit 2: I would also look at dropping RTX and going for 1660+ as AC: O does not have raytracing as far as I can tell. Newer games will likely bog down with DXR on anyway so given your budget, I wouldn't stress RTX. Your next card after this one, may be a good go for it.

this thinking dosnt make the slightest sense.. i have been playing wildlands a lot recently the graphics are very pretty at high very high or ultra.. there really is no need to run this game at ultra only for those that have been brainwashed into thinking they should be able to..
What if you want to? Brainwashing has nothing to do with it. There is no need to buy a car that goes over 80mph/120kph (except you lucky Germans) anything else is overkill. There is no need for anything over a hexcore anything else is overkill for gaming. Hell, there is no need for anything other than a studio apartment unless you have kids. It's overkill.

Ahh, it has an Ultra setting!!!

Sweet. One title that can't be run at 60 FPS with an RTX 2060. :)

Somehow, the matching (vry high, 1080p) results are like 10% slower in your Polish site than what times ran using the in-game benchmark. Tough to compare apples to apples (regardless of what we think of the testing method). 10%+ doesn't make a 1060 run ULtra at 60 FPS though!!
