Keep in mind that Fig is looking at the same data Epic Games did. Epic Games Store decided to help improve the health of the market via exclusivity agreements and lower revenue sharing. Fig initially tried unaccredited investments and are now pursuing an open framework (no deadlines, continuous development, product as a service) for developing and publishing video games.

TL;DR...

Harebrained Schemes
2012 Kickstarter campaign (Shadowrun Returns) prep time: 2 weeks
2016 Kickstarter campaign (BattleTech) prep time: 24 weeks (remember time is money!)

"The 2012 – 2013 gold rush created a false sense of success that was unsustainable and fad-driven leading up to a peak in 2015."

Kickstarter only has a 22% success rate for video games.

Fig Open Access is a Minecraft-like model to funding game development: video game development as a service. You buy the game officially complete but as sales come in and feedback is heard, the game may be expanded and updated which everyone benefits from.

Games as a service?

Hard
Pass

Im already steady on the path of buying only feature complete releases and it will not change unless the game demands it from a conceptual standpoint. As in, an MMO world that evolves with a playerbase.

Figs idea...not with a ten foot pole. If its that hard to find a product that is profitable, maybe it just should not exist. Getting them spoonfed is not the answer and not in our best interests.
