My onboard realtek works like a charm and never had any issues with it, pretty good sound quality as well

I'm on Win 7 64bit and it rocks.....I used to like XP but the performance on the desktop left a lot to be desired.

When I first installed win 7 with my 7.1 sound I got no sound..lol.
I had to find a fix online from realtek and download it directly from them.
At least it fixed the problem.

I just notice some choppyness in l4d2 now.
The same choppyness I use to get on xp 32 if I had hardware acceleration to high.
Hell if I had hardware acceleration on at all.
Disabling it in xp 32 made me run more stable and I got a noticeable improvement in fps.

Odd that sometimes when I'm watching movies via divxweb player now, I get tiny jumps occasionally, like skips.
Not enough to really bug me, maybe 4 per movie.
but they were nonexistent before.

I tried to skip Vista but Mr Gates gave me a free copy. And today i would not buy it but same goes with Win 7 too as DX 10 or DX11 mean crap to me at least for now.

Vista today runs really well now it's patched up and sure it would of been the same if Win 7 came out 1st as it was a fair step in another direction. I know i will not buy Win 7 thats for sure maybe Win 8.

use a heatgun or hairdryer and only heat up part of it then.

If you heat it, then use weight to bend it to the shape you want, it should retain that shape when the weight is removed.

I got Vista 9 months after launch. Drivers & Updates had improved during that time. Never had any problems since.

I'll stay with Vista until 8 shows up.

I never had a problem with Vista, though I did wait until SP1 was out and SP2 was well on its way. XP was crap when it was first released, so I stuck with Windows 2000 for a long time. I still got a lot of love for Windows 2000.

I was forced to upgrade to Windows 7 when it was released, but I'm happy with it. Microsoft did a lot of beta testing with it, so it works really well.

I have never had anything with Vista. Actually, I'm still using XP. You could say, that I'm just too lazy to upgrade. I don't see that upgrading would be super great or would be worth backing every single thing up, re-installing stuff and so on, which is a big pain in the ass. I will be building a new rig and buying a laptop, both with Win7.

Yeah, I did think about that too. At the moment I have a proven workaround though, and so long as that works I'll use it rather than risk on a hunch a card I paid $250 for when they first came out. I axed the IO drive section of it since the IDE-style ribbon cable was always in the way, but the card itself has seen much use.

It may be a major pain in the ass, but there's no competition VS. onboard sound. This POS has been in every re-build and upgrade since I got it. I must have a love for pain :roll:

I skipped Vista too, going straight from XP 32 to 7 x64, and I don't feel like I missed anything. I had plenty of time using Vista on builds for customers who requested it, and preferred going back to my rigs with XP. Service packs helped, but it took 7 for me to switch, and I have zero regrets.

I know where you can get win 7 for 99 bucks though if you ever do get around to it.

As for hardware, it's basically the same, just may need some more memory.
which has also become increasingly cheap. some good ddr2 ram will hold u over fine.
I'm still running ddr2 800 ram on mine 3 gb and doing fine in win 7 64 bit.
