right now i am on the 940 with dominator ram but the 955 has an increas in performance.

are these the actual 955 or the 940 to 955 specs that were released a while back?

How are you disappointed? It's really only a 200mhz bump up from the 940 and mandatory DDR3, you couldnt have expected that much from that? It does good though, exactly what I w as thinking, now lets see how she clocks!

I agree. And in the Tom's Hardware review they tested it with DDR2 and DDR3 and showed the throughput difference. In benchmarks it's a good jump, but real stuff they shaved a couple of second off. That is fine for me... I have a dual core on DDR2 so my 955 will be such an awsome updrade (bought my 955 this morning)

the 955 clocks better than the 940 so that in itself is enough to change

Its still not perfect for me

well for starters price, maybe at stock speeds its faster than higher and lower priced intel C2Q, but the intel quads are still faster clock for clock and oc like crazy even a Q9400, so i was specting a lot more head room thanks to ddr3 and also ive read a couple of articles were amd actually improved the oc headroom by tuning its power consumption, the 955 actually uses less power at stock speed vs 940 at stock, but when overclocked it actually seems to get hotter and consume more power, returning to the oc headroom several reviews state its about the same level as a 940, i agree its a great chip as an update to 940 but if i had to build a platform it still be a i7 or just a 720BE theres 100$ diff going from the 955 to to a crappy i7 920 build(thats still a lot more powerfull) and 115$ going down from the 955 to the 720, and the i7 its just to expensive for me and to power hungry, the bottom line is id save 115$ dollars for buying a better board and better ram for my new rig by going 720(Just love it:toast:), it might be cause im only looking for a gaming rig though.

Review sites SUCK at OC'ing. I'll wait until I see many user OC's before making a decision about this chip.

Remember when the 940 came out and some of the sites were claiming it maxed out at 3.4 stable?

thats is true, it seems the chip is getting some high clocks for some people, maye some get better chips than other either way id play a waiting game till th price cut, combos deals on newegg and when new batches come out, they are usually of higher quality.

well for everyone wanting to see the performance of the new 955... personally im bit disapointed:mad:

im actually going for the 720 now after reading the reviews, jejeje

I dont see why you are disapointed. The PII 955 is a PII 940 with a DDR3 memory controller... to actually expect a huge increase in performance is idioctic.

It's gonna take more than 4Ghz anyways to pry me away from my 720BE... I can already hit 3.8 @ 1.55v and my 4th core unlocks and OC's to 3.6 @ 1.475v, anything past that is hard though.

I just want mine to arrive. Not that I can use it but I want to cuddle it. Too bad Newegg only has them in Cali so it won't be here until next week. :(
