That makes sense now.
I haven't used Conductonaut since some time.
I used it last time on i7 7700K after de-liding it.

I hope you used some isolation paint on the components on the GPU chip that are close to the exposed thermal pad.
I did use nail polish and kapton tape around the die. I also applied just enough so it doesn't flow into other parts (especially since the graphics card is sitting vertically).

Hello. Guys, what are your max junction temps on rx 6900 xt? On my red devil they reach 105 degrees when max overclock ed (2650 MHz, 2138 memory) and about 85 degrees without power limit slider to The max. 20 degrees plus for a 100 MHz boost in clock not worth it... But still, why 105 degrees with max power slider 15%?!

105°C is really high.
Are you at default fan profile?
When I had a normal 6900XT Red Devil, it went to 95°C with custom fan profile at 2675MHz@1075mV but I had 384W Core power and 384A TDC set in MPT.
With that high power setting I never hit higher temperatures as I used custom fan profile where fan was spinning at 90% for temperatures higher than 90°C.

I have heard at number of forums sometimes people had cards where they had high temperatures due to some issues associated with build quality.
Especially there were users of Liquid Devil cards who had very high temperatures. :(

One person at Igor's lab opened his Liquid Devil and applied new past to lower temperatures, but that would avoid warranty at least in Germany.
There was another owner of 6900XT Liquid Devil Ultimate who applied Liquid Metal to lower the temperatures.

After my 6800XT died which was custom water cooled, I try in future to be more careful to open the card and lose the warranty especially one need to sell a Kidney to buy a new one again.:D

No matter what fan curve i choose, junction temps hit 100+ degrees in some games when I use 2600-2700 MHz and +15% power profile. And that s without messing up with mpt, so power maxes up at around 323 W. Normal temps (non junction sit below 70 degrees even with fan at 50% which is barely audible. Maybe some of my gpu memory modules arent properly cooled or smth... But as soon as Iower the power bar to 0, junction drops 20 degrees up to 80-85 degrees. What to do?

The junction temperature is not related to memory modules.
It is temperature of the GPU chip hot spot. There are many temperature sensors inside the GPU chip and as far as I understood this junction temperature shows the hottest spot inside the GPU chip.
To me this looks like an issue of no proper contact of GPU with heatsink.
Maybe you should contact the shop where you bought it and they can offer a replacement.
If you try to repair it yourself by opening it and applying new thermal paste you could void warranty.

Ok. Thank you very much!
I hope the shop will help you and don't ask you to wait for weeks until they replace it. :ohwell:

On the hand, there is a big silicon lottery out there when it comes to good Ocing cards. You need to take into account that your replacement card could be either better or worst in OC performance that is hard for anybody to predict.

Yes and no, I took my reference cooler of my 6800XT, peeled the thermal pad of, put paste on it, and at under 150w loads it was fine, at over 150w loads the hotspot got out of hand really fast really bad. (110c bad)
That told me that the cold plate and chip did not make 100% contact with paste, or at least some small part of it. No matter what I tried, I could not bring hotspot back to normal. Got a water-block, hotspot is now nice and cool.

The reason some of these cards come with a thermal pad on the GPU instead of paste is that for some models the cold plate is not very even, so a thicker medium is needed to make contact all over the chip.
Not sure what your model is, but it could be that from factory there is not good enough contact and in very high wattage scenarios the cooler just cant keep up because of uneven contact.

Also, these card guarantee a certain speed at a certain power limit, so if the hotspot gets out of hand only when overclocking, you might be out of luck with warranty, but I would send it to repair or replace without mentioning the OC part

I have a powercolor red devil rx 6900 xt limited edition. Indeed, i used mpt to push power over 360 W in some scenarios...Finally, I settled for stock power parameters, with only power slider maxed. But what you told me might indeed be the case: past a certain wattage, my card might not function properly any longer.

Cant say I am an expert on that model, but what you are describing sound like either your case is badly ventilated, which would make hot air get recirculated and that would drastically regress the cooling performance (from what I read above, that's not the case), or some issue with the mounting of the cooler. That cards cooler should be good enough to allow it to OC easily without turning it into an oven, so my guess is the cooler is not ideally mounted, hence at higher wattage it craps out basically. With the risk of voiding warranty, you could try to screw the 4 main screws tighter, or add some washers, but if your card has warranty seals, those would be broken during that process, so up to you how you want to handle it. In my opinion, 100-200 extra mhz is not that big of performance jump to merit all the hassle :)

Of course it counts.
Welcome to the club.:D

As I said before, I had 6900XT Red Devil before that I returned.
I returned it as it was not much faster than my 6800XT that OCed like crazy. :D
I pushed that Red Devil at 2675MHz@1075mV with 384W and 384A TDC with MPT but highest temperature was only 95°C.

It was actually varying between 88°C and 95°C under these OC conditions and did not go higher.

As I mentioned earlier it seems like there is contact problems between cooler and GPU for your case.
For higher power setting the leakage increases and if cooler is not having good contact the heat will not be removed effectively.

As @Felix123BU mentioned, AMD is using a thermal pad between GPU and heatsink on reference design and not a thermal paste. Thermal pad helps in case the surface of heatsink is not even and avoids issues with it not completely touching the GPU.
The custom cards use thermal paste and I heard many complains from owners in different forums that temperatures are very high on their custom cards.

BTW, i like the 6800xt, I got a friend who knew I had a rx580 8gb, I told him I was finally playing borderlands 3 for the time and I got a new gigabyte ultra wide screen monitor (3440x1440)...

"Oh? so what setting you running the game at? Isn't it laggy?"
"All of em to the max.... :D not laggy at all 100+ FPS"
"WTF?!"
Then told him I got a Radeon 6800xt with my new machine running a Ryzen 5600xt :D

A belated welcome to the club, where RX 6000 card owners sip champagne and munch on caviar! :toast: (I wish!) :D

I have a rather aggressive fan setting on mine, with ambient temp in my room around 23C, my junction temp is around 80C with my core temp in the mid 60's. I dunno if the new driver or my recently serviced aircon (they did a total chemical wash on the blower) but temps are pretty good now.

I have not really looked at overclocking the card. Does not seem to need it.

The CPU has PBO turned on and ram is running at 3200.

I have replaced the front fan and water cooler fan with some high-end corsair fans (radiator is now in fan sandwich) so the machine is quieter.
Other than that I'm happy with the performance.

Bios does not appear to have latest agesa so resizable BAR support is not available.
Has some other quirks such as if you do a hard shut down holding in the power button, you have reset the bios to get it to boot back up again.
Typical Dell.

hopefully in 3-4 years if I can build a new computer from scratch again.

Played COD MW WZ SP campaign for about 1 hour, here's the max sensor reading with GPU-Z, the memory clock seems wonky though, which kinda raises doubts about everything. Still, as I was playing the game, and glancing at MSI AB, temps were always in the 70's, don't recall it hitting 80C at all.

Yes the prices are higher than in Germany.
Mindfactory is selling 6900XTU Liquid Devil Ultimate for 2299€.
I paid that price for mine.

Holy...!!! o_O And here I was sputtering and damn near having convulsions at having to pay 1350USD for my (by now) vanilla Nitro+ RX 6900 XT! Those cards cost more than twice what I'd paid for mine!!

Was going to say a sacrilegious thing, for 2299 EUR you could have gotten a 3090....but I just checked, those are starting from 3200 EUR  Insane prices :twitch:

Yes, I looked at 3090 at that time but the prices were even crazier.

For my XFX 6800XT, I paid only 299€ delta. :D
I bought it for 999€ and sold Radeon VII for 700€.

If my 6800XT did not get damaged by ESD shock  I would not have bought 6900XTU.

As a matter of fact, I bought first 6800XT Red Devil as replacement for the dead XFX 6800XT, but this sample of 6800XT Red Devil was not good. It did not OC over 2400MHz and even there showed artifacts when running Time Spy.

My XFX 6800XT used to run at 2750MHz@1020mV.
So I was pissed off and got crazy after returning Red Devil and spent damn lot of money on high performing 6900XTU and did not wanted to play silicon lottery by ordering another 6800XT instead of Red Devil.

By the way, I was looking today at what 6900XT Red Devil regular card cost now. It is now 1799€ and it used to cost 1399€ in mid of March. It went up by 300€ since then. :kookoo:

Just a couple of days ago the gloom and doom YouTube squad was saying soon GPU's will start getting to normal levels, I guess Ethereum wanted to disagree with them, as long as Ethereum goes up, GPU prices will also follow :wtf:

When I got the 6800XT I was like damn, that's the most I have ever paid for a GPU, never higher, but then again, said the same thing when I paid 500 for the Vega64, and now 710 EUR for a 6800XT is a dream no one could even dream to achieve....
