Yeah I don't think it's just a high refresh rate monitor problem as I was seeing the same thing on my RX5700 and 24" 75Hz Viewsonic VA panel monitor it's not doing it with the RX6800 though
Evan after AMD said they'd fixed the issue I still had it happen on the RX5700 I still think it's a driver problem not a GPU/Monitor problem

Colour me impressed! 186FPS average in Division 2 but before that in 4K 204 FPS playing Squadrons. I can officially state that this card is faster than 2 Vega 64s in Crossfire supported Games like TWWH2, AOTS, Jedi Fallen Order, Division 2 and Squadrons.

Not sure how much different the Red Dragon is in comparison to Red Devil. Probably the shroud is made with less metal parts and but I wouldn't know for sure.

I've noticed the same thing. 4k maxed out and I got 60FPS with the fidelity. I need to get some time and maybe take a closer look at this.
I wouldn't go lower than 80~85% as it starts to look quite nasty lower than that

If I increase the power limit to 15%, my temps go as high as 100C (junction) and the GPU hits 350W sometimes.
If I don't increase the power limit at all, my temps around 90C (junction) and GPU hits 300W sometimes.

Any reason why should I increase?

you have 6800XT as I see.
I don't see your Jtemp go 100. Your manual fan curve is set to 60% when the temp does reach 100c.
Maybe you should use temp monitoring to see what the max jtemp actually is when you OC and then adjust fan curve or set it to automatic just to get some default settings data.

It hits 100C when I use 3DMARK benchmark.
I didn't even notice the 60% - need to change that of course. Thanks.
About the power limit, any cons?

Well, it is obvious that when you use higher power target the temp will go up. If you OC at the same time the temp will also go up respectively. The Junction temp is a hot spot temp. So it is supposedly be hitting 110c before the GPU will throttle. Of course you want to keep it as cool as possible but that's not an odd behavior.
3d Mark is a benchmark so it stresses the card to its limits. No wonder you get this type of readings. What card brand you've got?

I think I got it wrong. The fan curve is set to 80% while at 100c. It is something to fiddle with anyway.
BTW. You can also try increasing power limit to maximum but also lowering vcore trying by 10 at a time. But you will have to test for stability.

RX 6800XT Nitro+
this is the lowest vcore I could get
I suspect maybe the airflow in the case is bad. I'll do some test.

Well, if you don't have a sufficient airflow in your case that is something to look at.
When I get home I will 3dmark few times in a row my 6900 xt red devil and see what temps I get. Didn't have a lot of time to look at it yet.

For Nitro+ 6800XT you have GPU power limit set to 290W by default compared to 255W on reference design card.
This mean when you apply 15% powerlimit you allow 332.35W to GPU core. You need to add to that around 45W for the other components of the GPU which means you have a total of around 377W.
This is close to the limit of what 2×8pin and PCIe slot can supply a combination of 375W. You are driving your card on it's limits. :p

Maybe you need further tuning. I thought Nitro+ can achieve better results than reference cards with respect to overclock and under volt.

A good air circulation hopefully will help with the temperatures.
I have Cooler Master Cosmos C700P which provides a lot of air flow with 2 fans at bottom for air suck in and 6 fans on radiators that push the air out.
Before I went water cooling for 6800XT, my temperatures were 67°C and junction 90°C max under stress tests. At that time, I had modified fan curve to go to 100% fan speed relatively fast.

I have water cooled setup now. The 6800XT has maximum 47°C and Junction of 67°C in stress tests but Junction temperature in games is around 54°C. :D

I have reference XFX 6800XT and I use 275W for GPU core and 305A TDC applied by using MPT additionally I have 15% power limit in Wattman.
This means the GPU core is allowed to take 316.25W and total GPU power is around 361W.
I am able to achieve 2580-2612MHz clock in games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

My setting in Wattman are 2650MHz@970mV.
These are my settings for daily gaming and not just to achieve highest score for short Benchmark. :D
I am achieving a score of 19376 in Time Spy with this.

So far very stable in all games that I recently played (Borderland 3, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk). :p

Mine does not like VRAM overclock though. Even 50MHz increase on MCLK causes crashes in benchmarks. Maybe it has to do with SAM. I have not tried it without SAM.

The Dragon has a lower factory overclock than the Devil. Not sure that makes a difference in maximum clocks provided I can keep it cool enough. The Devil might allow for higher power limit too, but I haven't got into any overclocking yet.

Yay! More and more are joining the club!!! :toast:

As for refresh rate and memory clock, does this happen with Freesync monitor at 144Hz? I ask because I have a Freesync 2 monitor at 144Hz, and my GPU MCLK stays at between 24Mhz to 196Mhz on desktop, haven't seen it go higher than the latter.

On the desktop with my FreeSync Premium Pro at 60Hz and 120Hz my MCLK is similar to yours, at 165Hz it goes full speed. Power also goes from 9w to 34w.

It's the same behavior as my last card (5700XT).

So, I guess it means that at 144Hz (Freesync 2 monitor) it acts as it should, but going up a notch to 165Hz causes the MCLK to go nutz, right? If that's the case, so glad I'd stuck with 144Hz refresh range when I'd upgraded my monitor to my present one. But, I guess this glitch would prolly be resolved with a future driver update....

its really not that big of a deal though, its not taxing the memory hard when idle even though its reporting max speed. its no different than my 5600x all core oc at 46.25 ghz hwifino shows it at 46.25 24/7 but its not actually taxing it until i place load on it. so this doesn't bother me to much honestly.

i'm really impressed with my 5600x and 6800 non-xt. honestly was expecting some issues because of the 5700 xt horror stories (I skipped that generation), but everything has been rock solid for me when not OC'ing. and now that i have OC'ing mastered somewhat, I have had 0 issues for a solid month now with everything oc'd, including monitor. :D

On the desktop with my FreeSync Premium Pro at 60Hz and 120Hz my MCLK is similar to yours, at 165Hz it goes full speed. Power also goes from 9w to 34w.

It's the same behavior as my last card (5700XT).
Yes I have exactly the same situation with my FreeSync Premium Pro monitor.
Upto 144Hz, MCLK is low but setting monitor to 165Hz causes it to go full speed.
For games like Assassin's creed valhalla and Cyberpunk even 144Hz is enough. The FPS does not reach the limit also with my heavily OCed 6800XT. :p
In Borderlands 3 if I set refresh to 144Hz, the FPS was often sitting constantly there. :D

I really need to get some time to look at this stuff. I havent noticed anything so far but I keep forgetting. I'm getting a new monitor soon (damn hope it will arrive) and I need to double check that with FreeSync Premium.
BTW. I tried CP2077 yesterday and damn, at some point I got 20FPS :p60FPS is spot on hehe. That game is crazily demanding.

Did you try undervolting and OCing your Red Devil 6900XT?
It would be interesting to see if they have higher binned ASIC to overclock better.

I didn't try much yet. I've got no time. Just simple benchmarks etc.
The problem with all 6000 series cards is the power limit. it is locked and thus you can't go crazy with it but I plan to check. Maybe over the weekend. I need to get a good benchmark that would leave the cpu alone and just get the card maxed out. Maybe some benchmarks at 4k. My 2700x at 1080p can't keep up with the 6900xt.
