If you are using a chrome based browser then you could use this setting in Experiments which works really well for sites with blaringly white backgrounds

I found my screen hurt my eyes when I was browsing the website for a long time. I also found the white background that it hurts my eyes too. Could you recommend any lamp for avoiding these issue?
Dark reader for chrome or ff

Im also using f.lux like years now. I prefer it over Win night mode. Except that you can set 2 levels of warm light you can also set it to disable when going full screen (video/movies and gaming)

@sowhat You need less screen time and more rest. 20min on and 1min off is not enough if you do still use screens all day.

Eyes are guided by the brain. If your eyes hurt, it means your brain can't process proper. Everything else is a bandaid and the damage can also be done and require a much longer rest period. Speaking from experience here. All this blue light nonsense is just smoke & mirrors to delude ourselves its about the gear and not ourselves. We just get tired, simple. The effect of blue light on sleep patterns... its hardly conclusive evidence there - its mostly just screen use.

All those measures to reduce strain are exactly that: reductions to the amount of effort your brain needs to make to see things proper. High contrast = more effort. The more equal your room/monitor lighting, the less eye strain, and the longer you use the same settings, resolution, monitor... lower eye strain. We 'learn how to look', sort of. So if you keep fiddling with it... you're really not fixing anything because your already tired brain needs to adjust to new things.

Note as well that even a dark reader/mode is still a high contrast color scheme - just as much as a white on black text one. It can even be worse if your room is dim lit because now white text is even more poppy as the monitor doesn't give out as much light to the room.

Probably thats the case with me, for some reason I find that dark themes strain my eyes more than the standard white.
Tbh I barely have issues with white themes in general, like you said when I'm tired then pretty much anything will bother my eyes anyway and I just need to rest. 'even till this day I take 1-2 hour naps every day else I don't feel right :laugh:'

Might worth to mention that I have a very bad eyesight since high school and have to wear glasses even when I'm sitting at the PC.
Whenever I tried dark theme on different sites I felt uncomfortable even after a few mins and had to switch back.

The same thing happens if you've been sunbathing for a while, even with your eyes closed - you're still looking at a red-ish tint on your inner eyelids because of the bright light. If you then open your eyes, everything can look overly blueish or greenish.

Or other hues depending on what your eyes are made of.

I think @remixedcat's point is that if you're doing design work that it's an unfavorable side-effect, even if you don't use it when you're doing your work. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Thank you your suggestions. I think I use computer whole day. Sometime i need to take a rest for the eyes and pretect my eyes first. Although my work is great important than my eyes. Do you think is the lamp working here? i do the search today. I found BENQ put the computer light into the market, the name is screenbar light. Do you think is it possible to protect my eyes from hurts when using the compter for a long time.

No its not.

And no one action is going to fix everything. You need to adjust your brightness and contrast. You need to adjust your blue levels. You need to adjust your ambient (room) lighting. You need to avoid glare. You need to regularly and frequently look around and away to distant objects. You need to sit up straight and ensure your monitor(s) is at the ideal height for your neck, back and shoulders. You need to regularly and frequently get up and walk around. Then after you do that, start over and do it again.

If you think your work is more important than your eyes, then you need to protect your eyes so you can do your work.

If you want to protect your livelihood and work, find ways to reduce screen time. There are no other options.

NO. Impossible.

But you are correct, money isn't important than my eyes. If I lost my eyes, the world will be dark. I try to take a rest for my eyes when I was using a computer for a long time. I need to buy a lamp to adjust the light when I was using the computer. If I see the screen for a long time, specially playing a game or watching the information in white background. I feel seeing something unclear. Games aren't important to me but work is great important to me.

If you cannot reduce the over all screen time, then you need to find ways to interrupt and interject more break/rest periods into your computing sessions. That is, I think two 5 minute breaks would be better than one 10 minute break. But I am not an eye doctor so again, I think you should see an eye doctor to determine what is best for you.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that you should probably go see an ophthalmologist and see what he recommends you do. We can keep guessing all we want, but we cant feel the amount of eye strain you experience.
Do you really use a 65" LG tv as a monitor?
If so get something normal like a 32" monitor, again it all depends what you use your monitor for, and weather you use it for a longer period of time everyday.
Good to see you understand that health should be No. 1, and then financial independence.

Hahahahaha oops maybe I should visit an eye doctor myself.

EDIT: I have glasses with a blue light filter and did not have eyestrain up to this point.

I've heard a few people say an IPS monitor cleared up their eye issues. I'm hoping to test that out when I purchase one.

I've heard a few people say an IPS monitor cleared up their eye issues. I'm hoping to test that out when I purchase one.
Nah! Their new monitor could have been easier on their eyes, but it was not because it was IPS. More likely it was because their previous monitor was lousy, or they changed their computing habits, the placebo effect or a little bit of all of those.

I just spent several minutes and found different people saying TN, IPS, and VA. Then I found a report that says curved. However, that was by ViewSonic who wants you to buy a curved monitor.

I found no report by any medical site that says one type is better over another. What I did find were articles that talk about proper adjustments for brightness, contrast, screen height, distance from screen and screen size, font size and resolutions and ambient lighting and glare. And of course, breaks/rests from staring at screens.

Yea it seems that the solution varies person-by-person, judging by others experiences.

I remember when I transitioned from CRT to LCD, and just how harsh the LCD monitors felt on my eyes, no matter the adjustments. Sadly lugging my 23" Viewsonic CRT out of the closet just ain't practical anymore. :laugh:

I found my screen hurt my eyes when I was browsing the website for a long time. I also found the white background that it hurts my eyes too. Could you recommend any lamp for avoiding these issue?
Stop cranking brightness all the way up to 100%, maybe?

This is actually more vital than anything else. When we get tired we also rub our eyes, and tend to blink less. Eyes go dry and a protective film, just like how you treat lenses for eyes, falls off during the day.

Its really brutally simple.. apes werent built for screens :)

During spring i always get bad hayfever so i've always got some around, but they totally can help with various types of eye strain (the dry eyes variety, most)
