Nothing too crazy, just another American robin, because apparently that's the only thing that wants to look at me.

Then this bastard wouldn't even look at me. Might be a Cooper's Hawk? I clearly spooked him (her?) when I started trying to get closer.

Just a goose. Would have been better if it was facing the opposite direction, towards the sun. The normal hardware I use at 1/1000s, ISO 400, ƒ8 @ 400mm.

Sounds like a cue for the commercial about the Google Pixel and the magic eraser.
I thought about trying to edit the poop out, but nah. I'm too lazy.

Anybody in here use Topaz AI software? I am testing it and its pretty damned amazing. Not the end all be all, but definitely a tool to have in ones arsenal. Here is a low res photo I took of my wife that I cleaned up using that software. Highly recommended.

Took these photos last year in October.

I've used Topaz DeNoise AI in Photoshop to sharpen detail and reduce noise in .NEF RAW scans of Kodachrome slides, using a Nikon LS-5000ED and SF-200 feeder. I find the results acceptable. It's also good at reducing colour noise on DSLR images shot in low light at ISO 115,200 or higher.

For video I experimented with Topaz Video AI to process 1440x1080i files from old Sony HDR-HC1E tapes. First run converts from 25fps interlaced to 50fps progressive. Second run is full frame stabilisation, in which Topaz fills in the edges of each frame using information from preceding and following frames. It's quite effective and allows you to keep the full image, instead of cropping the frame like other software. Video AI showed a tendency to crash or BSOD Windows 10, but the stability has improved with recent releases.

Is that Topaz Photo AI or Topaz Sharpen AI? That's a nice looking result.

I post about it a bit on other forums and some people are, well, not too receptive, until they see what it can do to their own photos. I was blown away. I plan to use the package sans video AI to update all our old film photos to digital, even the blurry ones, because as you can see, the software works quite well. Its not the end all be all software, but a great tool in the arsenal.

Thanks for posting this. I received a free copy of Topaz Gigapixel AI with the Intel GPU i bought earlier this year but hadn't gotten around to installing it yet.

The oldest digital photos I have date back to 1999 and they were, to say the least, fairly poor quality. This is a screen capture of taking a 1280x960 (1.2MP) shot blown up to 4 times (5120x3840) shown @ 1:1 pixels with the software. Pretty impressive. (posted full res at 100% jpg quality)

Been abysmal for good light and pics for me recently. Grey or white skies.... Got these on a walk today. The urban wildlife of Glasgow.

A Great Tit. No jokes, please. ISO1250, 1/400s, f7.1 500mm (800 equiv).

A Sparrohawk in it's favoured environment of a newly built housing estate. ISO800, 1/800s, f7.1 500mm (800 equiv).
Sparrowhawk.jpg

And a fox, pretty much taken on our return home, but coincidentally on the river bank under the tree the hawk was on. ISO640, 1/500s, f7.1 500mm (800 equiv).

The R7 does well in reasonable light. I'll get to enjoy it more as the days get longer, and the sun shines brighter.

@the54thvoid Honestly, bright daylight makes for some nasty shots, with the harsh shadows and everything. You will get the best shots when the Sun is not that up in the sky, or when it's cloudy.
I mean, what you have is already amazing. And you can brighten them up a bit (selectively?), if you feel like it. Shots in bright daylight, on the other hand, just don't have "magic" in them.

Those pigeon shots look noisy on a 4K display at full size, i'm curious if the samsung tool can help with that or if its an artifact of DPI scaling or something. It's always been frustrating seeing them look weird on the PC vs the phone.

Edit: samsung photo editor has some options that help the contrast/colour tint, but the gallery has a new "remaster" option. Examples edited in above.

I'd always prefer to 'shoot' early morning, around sunrise, and I'm too lazy to go out at dusk (and there are more folk around). But if I'm out during the day, the harsh white, or grey drains the colour from the world. I'd prefer sunlight in that instance for wildlife.

Same Pigeon a few days later
View attachment 286610

Those pigeon shots look noisy on a 4K display at full size, i'm curious if the samsung tool can help with that or if its an artifact of DPI scaling or something. It's always been frustrating seeing them look weird on the PC vs the phone.

Edit: samsung photo editor has some options that help the contrast/colour tint, but the gallery has a new "remaster" option. Examples edited in above.
fuckin pidgins

dont get me started on the pigdeons i got. fucking carpet boimbing bastards

@Mussels Noise is the perpetual bane of small sensors. Little light + mandatory amplification = noise, no way around that.
What is somewhat surprising is even if you shoot the clear sky in broad daylight @ISO200 with a DSLR, you still get noise. Something to do with blue light sensor sensitivity, I don't recall exactly. But there it is.

More like small pixels, but that's usually a given for small sensors. Pardon me being pedantic. :)

I was thinking you can have small sensors with big "pixels". Then I realized, you can, if you give up some resolution. So yeah, you said it better.

Just a goose. Would have been better if it was facing the opposite direction, towards the sun. The normal hardware I use at 1/1000s, ISO 400, ƒ8 @ 400mm.

Hey, that's a Canada Goose. And looks like it's taking a dump on American soil ;) It doesn't know any different, no borders for animals ;)
