Japan and Finland, two of the most socialist countries on the planet have amazing roads by contrast. Funny how that works eh?
Every country has their good and bad, but if there is one thing Japan has that I wish the UK has and i'm sure even the US would want.
Is their health care service being just about the right amount, but that could also be down to them having health insurance too which is apparently compulsory.
The high work ethic over there you can see it in a positive and negative, they are getting overworked to the point they have no social life but at the same time the end product is almost top notch and almost on schedule.
I mean look at the shambles of the HS2 is a prime example of how much money the gov has dumped and they haven't made a dent to the crappy project, the fact they are changing the plans to make half of the route pointless of the whole thing.

As for the whole political talk, lets just all agree every country has their good and bad deeds in history and AI is going to be a our own downfall.

HS2 should never have been allowed to even begin. It has been a colossal waste of money to the uk tax payer, and is not even gonna have trains running on it for years. All the money spent on getting ready for the manchester to birmingham section is dead with no hope of recovering it, and they will have to return all the areas where they have begun to how they were before they started. Or just leave a big mess everwhere.

The only thing the UK has accomplished in terms of transportation is the motorway is at least decent, but everything else is just poorly executed and way too expensive.
I mean on paper I thought the HS2 sounded promising, provided the train ticket was reasonably priced(we all know public transport should be cheaper than driving a car but its not) but now its just a huge waste of money like you said.

I wonder if the government offered these home owners a bad deal. It would be interesting to see if any of them take the gov to court even if they accepted the offer and moved

Usually Local authorities will lowball as hard as they can

If they can afford to take them or the local council or whoever it was that bought their homes I would be taking them to court for sure.

At least the HS2 construction gives me plenty of closures along the A38 Birmingham to North, to make sure I'm always late from work when I'm needed the most. Tax money well spent! :(

I disagree. The network is fine, but the road quality is Eastern European levels of abysmal. And there's always roadworks everywhere for seemingly nothing.

Edit: Also, the idea of the "smart motorway" is a joke.

Well...I agree the smart motorway is a joke and there are some decent Motorway sections when there isn't any roadworks.

We can agree on these matters. I hope robots get advanced enough to build and maintain roadways. That's backbreaking work, and as much as I don't want those guys to lose their jobs, they just can't keep up, so its time for a change. Our societies need to do a better job at innovation and then funding people misplaced by that innovation with free training in other in-demand areas.

While HS2 was probably more of a glamour project by the government that started it. Ideally, Sunak should have showed some backbone and seen it through to the end no matter the end result.

My opinion being that we are already so far into the project. Tonnes of money has already gone into it. Lets see it through to the end. Maybe there could be a silver lining eventually.

I would also like an in-depth audit to see how and where the money was spent.

With such a huge project and money constantly changing hands. they should have been auditing every 3-6 months to make sure everything was going where it should be going and not lining the pockets of executives or friends of the politicians who own stakes or shares in the companies
doing the work.

If they weren't keeping tabs on the money from the start with regular audits, its probably really hard to track where all the money went now. But im pretty sure that people in high places probably did profit from it.

Controversial opinion I know. But in for a penny in for a pound as they say

I'm not so sure about that, considering that things were pretty bad even before, so we're basically comparing shit to crap here. Like I said, Europeans only capitalised on the pre-existing social structures (problems) of occupied countries. They (we) didn't reinvent the wheel. If the colonisers should be blamed for something, it's not for making things worse, but for not making them better, imo.

Other than that, I see your point.
Yeah but maybe you are forgetting that in many cases we took their land, even the best land that was already owned/claimed, we took their crops etc and if they protested we killed them, perhaps even worse we forced them into slavery and sold them off for profit, from what I understand many were not slaves until we arrived, in many examples we were not really colonising, more conquering.

You are right though, slavery existed hundreds even thousands of years before British colonialism came along, but we were very effective at it nevertheless :)

I thought it was Denmark who were the first in Europe to ban slavery but my History lessons were nearly 50 years ago so you may well be right.

It was kind of Britain.
Britain passes Abolition of the Slave Trade Act, outlawing British Atlantic slave trade 1807
United States passes legislation banning the slave trade, effective from start of 1808
Sweden bans slave trade 1813
Netherlands bans slave trading 1814
Britain passes Abolition of Slavery Act, ordering gradual abolition of slavery in all British colonies. Plantation owners in the West Indies receive 20 million pounds in compensation 1833
Great Britain and Spain sign a treaty prohibiting the slave trade 1833

So tecnically kind of Britain, but i guess it was actually Sweden

Oh maybe you are right, but then we were not European then, as we are not now.

Not sure, Google and Wiki chat rubbish now n again.

I think England swapped to serfs for a bit leading to this confusion.

Denmark have the win on wiki but that ignores a few attempts before that by England, that were not fully successful.

Yep, people were slaves way before our ancestors arrived, so slavery is not their fault. Also, I cannot recall much slavery in Europe before the colonisation age (maybe the Romans, and later the vikings had some, but that's all). That's why I say that Europeans didn't invent slavery - they (we) only did what we do best: we took it from the colonies and industrialised it.

I believe iirc that certain tribes in Africa would invade a neibouring village and capture all the men, then sell them to the slavers, maybe to protect their own village from having their men taken, idk.

So tecnically kind of Britain, but i guess it was actually Sweden

it is strange though how we all look the other way when for decades slavery is still a thing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the coltan mineral, and in 2008 when I wrote about it 80% of the worlds supply came from there. its required for all of our electronic devices to function.

slavery is right in front of our eyes and we are all still using products from slaves to this day. its so bizarre to me the world doesn't seem to care in the slightest.

We only care if our conveniences remain intact and we can use the issue for virtue signaling. White people having slaves is bad. Non-whites having slaves is tradition (not that I agree with it, though). Double standards are another thing we're very good at, unfortunately.

Random question.

Do you happen to have any SATA cables longer than 60cm?

I ask because they cost £5 on amazon just for one and you are a supremist hoarder of all the good loot. If i can pick up two from you. It saves me some cash and you get money for more awesome loot.

I got some files copied over to the new SN770 SSD yesterday and tried to dry fit the controller card just to get everything prepped and all my cables are too short.

had the SN770 in a pciex4 riser and seeing read speeds of roughly around 3.2-3.3GB/s so speeds are roughly around where Gen 3 should be.

This is almost funny - if it wasn't for the fact Bernie can easily afford to pay back taxes of over half-a-billion pounds.

Funny how it's always those that can afford it are the ones that try not to pay it.

You don't get rich paying taxes, only if you're caught of course, I would say he now has a criminal record so he can no longer visit his homes in New York and LA .... what a shame

He has proper shot himself in the foot there, unless he gets special treatment for being mega rich.
