Here's a sad thought - perhaps AMD is only making the move to DDR2 for marketing value. The average person who knows nothing about computers will think that DDR2 is always faster, or even twice as fast as DDR. Someone could go into a shop, and ask for an AMD computer with DDR2. The guy behind the counter would explain how only Intel supports DDR2, and he will buy an Intel instead.
