I am amazed how IGN could give a score of 9.3 to this game.
I have personally given a mere 4.5 only because of the story, nothing else.
What has gone this wrong? I mean, they put 8.6 for Assasin's Creed III and 9 to Far Cry 3.
That is simply pathetic.

Take this as an asking point rather than an offensive point.
I want to know if i did go wrong with 4.5 as a score. Any ideas?

The story is as powerful as the choices are, both are extremely well done. I'm more engulfed in the interactive story than the show. The ride all the way to the 5th Episode stunning.

I'm not even a huge Walking Dead fan, my friend who is says the game is more attuned to the original comic than the show.

As for Assasin Creed 3, never played it so can't say.

Farcry 3, looked good, played well and most people fancied the story line even though you were playing some spoiled white kid.

As a general critique, you reviewed it based upon how it appealed to you. Reviewers at more notable sites are reviewing games from an objective standpoint, not a subjective one.

In your review, you write that "but as gameplay you might expect that point and click games are very boring". This isn't true for everyone.

Further, you write that graphics are not great. Certainly they are not great compared to games like Far Cry 3, but they're also not using anywhere close to the same art style. They are good for the type of art they chose (cel-shaded, if I'm not mistaken).

I can't comment on "Optimization" because I'm not a programmer.

I don't trust IGN, there are far better review sites out there. Can't comment on this game though since it's not my cup of tea. Just started AC3 and among some crashes I sense a good game. FC3 is one of the best of the year.

TWD is not the surprising pick for any reviewers or award panels.

The turd opinions come in when games like Max Payne 3 are thrown under the bus because noobs like Shane Satterfield (GameTrailers reviewer) can't fathom how to play it.

GameTrailers has SO many review categories for their GoTY awards it's pathetic, yet they yanked one of the most common, Best Shooter. This is no doubt because the GT staff pee their pants when they actually have to hit a target quickly or die.

GT labeled MP3 as one of the most disappointing games of 2012, naming Hitman Absolution as most disappointing. While I find some of Absolution's changes difficult to adjust to, it's far from being the most disappointing game of the year, and MP3 shouldn't even be on that list. VGA had it right to include it as a Best Shooter nominee.

About the only review source I've found to be fairly sound lately is the user scores on Metacritic. I've been maligned by at least one person for saying that, but the examples given were not good ones, and every time I check back there on various games, Meta users seem to have a pretty good idea of what stinks and what doesn't.

Part of the problem with GoTY awards is there's no real standard of judgment. Shooters generally don't stand a chance at GoTY, so they give them their own category, yet they lump games like Borderlands 2, which is arguably a Shooter/RPG hybrid, compete in a shooter specific category.

IMO if devs are going to waffle on what genre they make a game, that game should only be allowed to compete for GoTY, vs genre specific awards.

Same here i would not trust IGN either a long with most others too.. In fact you better not trusting anyone but your self as lets face it your the one who needs to play it and what others see are not what you see.

Yes The walking dead is based on the comic and the graphics do suck ass but unlike borderland the graphics are 100% more fitting.

In the end you can only know by playing it your self.

As for AC since the 1st one i lost interest due to key configs got so annoying.

I cannot comment on FC3 but do look forward to playing it at some point which brings me to another point near everyone hated FC2 and i waited till it was $8 and dam those who did not like it as i loved that game as it had so much going for it which i should know better by now as people will always see the worsted in some thing how ever grand some thing is..

If only they could make real GR2 or a Rainbow 6 but then people still bitch ever how perfect they were..

Max Payne was more of a pain as they made key config more complex than it needed to be.. Just some times some shit should not change.

I'd like to hear your detailed explanation of how key bindings or remappings were too difficult to manage?

I can understand many not liking the cutscenes, esp when the bulk of what plays cannot be skipped. I can even to a degree understand many not liking the story, even though only the first half is a vague copy of Man on Fire, and the new Max is an understandable evolution of the character.

What I cannot understand though is why many seem to hate the game based on having trouble with gameplay or controls in one way or another. Sure it has clear differences in that regard from past MPs, but it gives you all the tools you need to get through it and you can in fact use various methods to work around the difficulties or complexities.

You mention key configs as a problem with more than just Max Payne 3, and neither it or ANY AC game are nearly as complex key binding wise as some of the more tactical games out there. So I have to assume you just tend to have a problem with that in general.

Are you using a mouse that has programmable buttons? Just having an extra 2 or 3 mouse buttons to use can make a big difference, but I don't really need them on either of the games you mentioned as being too key complex.

That said you already know. I just liked the 1st 2 much more as one of the reasons i played it was due to being simple which was a great break from some other games i played for example Arma, DCS's KA-50.

Well did not know the story sucked along with it which is a shame and wow what a great film for it to compete with haha.

I go by word-of-mouth first and metacritic second:
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-walking-dead-episode-1---a-new-day

There are a lot of negative reviews at metacritic so, obviously, your position has some merit. Of course, maybe that game just isn't for you seeing how many good reviews it got from users too.

Confusing, you say I already know after I clearly asked what specific bindings were a problem. Then you say you didn't know the story sucked after saying you played it.

Maybe you meant you didn't know some people THOUGHT the story sucked. Well, IMO it doesn't, and is an understandable evolution of the game and character, as I said.

Suffice it to say Max Payne 3 is perhaps the most polarized regarding love it or hate it of all the 2012 games. Some put it on their best shooter list, while others toss it in their most disappointing bag that gets shoved into a closet along with all that sports gear that never gets used. :wtf:

I played it part the way though as i believe in fair chance even more so when i had just payed $50 for it..

And it sounded like you were picking on the story i my self only been though part of the game and stopped playing it for reasons already said.

To me if you spend $50 on a game and still not played it though at least once it's obvious the game failed to that player with the exception of some who just like buying games when they can to play at a later time but that's not the case..

On the key bindings I was only trying to get you to be more specific on what controls in particular you found clumsy, because I really can't think of any times where there were too many functions in the game to use, or a difficulty mapping the bindings. It's fairly simple and straightforward controls wise really.

Thank you all for the replies and happy Christmas!

Actually, reviews will always be a battle to 'death' since there will never be an ideal score.
One thing to note is that I personally rate in difference with the best game out there, rated by others,
which is Far Cry 3 and normally a score to my personal view and opinion.

I have played this game, but seriously, if you want story, you got Dishonored too.
Since it is called a game and not film, I wouldn't place all the bet on the story, but partially.
I gave it a score of 9 to the idea, which normally is the story, but graphics, gameplay and optimization are a joke.
I have written that it looks like PS2 graphics.

The worst thing though, is my bad english, since I am not native.

.I have written that it looks like PS2 graphics.

Editing the right game file will improve the graphics noticeably.

This is for W7. First you need to go to Documents\My Games\Dishonored\DishonoredGame\Config. Make a folder inside that folder and name it Default Engine. Now copy and paste the contents of the file called DishonoredEngine.ini and put it in that folder. This is to first backup the file before editing it.

Now open DishonoredEngine.ini and do an Edit\Find search for SystemSettings. In that tree you can set AmbientOcclusion to True, MaxAnisotropy to 16, DetailMode to 5, and MaxMultisamples to whatever your system can handle.

Thanks, but I guess this is an optimization problem to the game.
The normal user himself won't know what is going wrong with graphics.

Thanks, but I guess this is an optimization problem to the game.
The normal user himself won't know what is going wrong with graphics.

Let me know how that tweak works for you. It does make the game look quite a bit better. It still won't look super hi res, but it gives is a lot more detail.

I think the graphics are more a chosen look than poor optimization though. It's been described by many as a water color painting look.
