It's a pretty good game. I've had it for 3 days, I'm in chapter II right now.
+ nice graphics
+ good story (so far)
+ nice combat system IMHO, no more mindless clicking/hack'n slash
+ alchemy
+ chicks :pimp: reminds me of Duke Nukem, dunno why :D

- uses a lot of memory and hits the 2Gb barrier in Vista32bit, even with the vista patch (crashes in 2 hours tops, have to save quite often)
- graphics engine not optimized for high resolutions (COD4 looks better and runs smoother)
- skill tree pretty basic and repetitive IMHO
- most weapons are useless (only swords use witcher skills)
- inventory space has become a problem and I'm only in chapter II

As for 'useless' weapons - You know, Witcher i kinda like Jedi - You can use other weapons, but Lightsaber/Sword and Force/Alchemy|Magic are the sweet. 8)

Have you played it in XP? Is there a problem with memory use in XP?
Anyone?
This is an interesting point, about memory, as it is a serious issue and I would like to know more about it... Crashing while in a game is not so good for all other applications running at the background, as it could cause many problems:wtf: and endless headaches:banghead:

Has anyone else faced the same problem or noticed memory use terminating operation?
Let me know, people!!!

There's no memory problem in XP, because in XP it should have a smaller memory footprint. In a 32bit environment a single application can use a maximum of 2Gb memory. 64bit OS-es fix this problem. Under vista, because of sloppy allocation of memory, games usually end up using 20-50% more memory than under XP and are dangerously close to the 2Gb barrier :banghead:. For me, The Witcher is the first game to consistently hit that barrier.

Using XP buys you some time, but games will get bigger and bigger so 64bit OSes are inevitable.

You can read more about it here:

Thank for the info, friend....:toast:

In the past I used XP 64 sp1, but I had to go back to XP32 PRO SP2 bacause of all the incombatibilities I had to face.... :banghead:
Question: do you think that playing the game in vista, but under XP combatibility mode, will correct the problem?

Yeah, it's better to stick to XP, true and tested. I think another 6-12 months it will be the best option, maybe more if SP3 is a big step forward, maybe less if vista SP1 is any good. But at the rate memory needs double, in 2 years 64bit is a must for gaming.

Thanks for the welcome.

Guys sorry to interrupt but what are the minimum requirements for the game?

You guys think I would be able to try out the demo even before I download it. I don't want to waste my time downloading it if I won't be able to play it reasonably.

I know if anything i would have to play on low settings but it doesnt bother me. Thanx in advance.

6. Known Issues
======================================================

1) The Witcher may exhaust virtual address space when running on 32-bit Windows Vista. Microsoft has released a hotfix that addresses this problem. Please download the hotfix from the following location when playing the game on 32-bit Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105 N.B. I've installed the hotfix 2 months ago, still hits the the 2Gb barrier
2) The following video cards are not currently supported: S3 Colt, S3 S27, S3 S8
3) The following processors are out of range: AMD Duron Series, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ through 3200+, AMD Sempron 2400+ through 2800+, and the INTEL Celeron Series.
4) Some bugfixes mentioned above will work only if a game is restarted from scratch, for some others a corresponding act needs to be restarted.
