The Thecus N4100 Pro is a relatively low cost four bay NAS. It features basically all features the other models do and promises high performance. Where is the catch? We tested the N4100 to find out.

Assuming you were using a RAID5 or 1 array, as rebuilding wouldn't be possible in a RAID 0, the drives wouldn't spin down as the array is still functional. I assume it is designed to allow the data to still be accesed in the event of a drive failure.

During idle you'd expect they would. Power saving.

huge idle power draw , maybe Firmware (probably build using linux ) didn't support the spin down hdd feature ? 0_O anyway not acceptable idle power draw for me .

\I should have a review of the QNAP 439 soon. It's sitting at home right now. Atom based 4 bay NAS. Otherwise it's mostly the same device. (different exterior design) Should use less power while still offering performance. If not I'll be able to tell you otherwise by then.

Thecus has some new offerings as well, including Atom based. Not sure if I'll get one of those. They did say I could have one. Should be a similar device to the 439.
Thecus and QNAP offer mostly similar functionality.
