You should remove the old thermal paste, the one that cames with the Ati silecer is better, and different thermal pates shouldnt be mixed anyway.

I saw some pretty good results by mixing Arctic Ceramique with Zalman's paste :)

if u get more than 1 degree difference between pastes given the same case settup and ambient temps then i would be surprized....i never did. u want my advice? no? well i'll give it anyway....slap some on there and stick it together...and if u use arctic silver dont get it on anything else coz it might short somthing out.

A little pice of trivia, Zalman has a contract with AS to make its paste, AS5 is not really notisably better but you would think AS would put more care in AS5.

you have to remove the old paste. use 99% isopropanol alcohol if you can and a coffee filter. you want to have the least amount of residue on the core and hsu base as possible. if you have a quality paste around replace the stuff on the silencer with a very very thin layer spread with a credit card or razor blade. if you dont, just leave the stock silencer paste but make sure to clean the core as best as possible.

never re use paste.

the white zalman paste is Artic ceramic for anyone who cares,

just one thing, alot of graphics processors have exposed solder points and resistors on the chip (not on die itself), so a ceramic based thermal paste is recommended, some Metal based pastes like artic silver series, OCZ, Geil thermal paste, Artic cooling MX-1 can conduct electricity, they can close open solder points and change resistor values,

theres also a new player around the block called liquid metal, its based on gallium,
has a small problem, it eats trough various metals, so its use is not recomended,

use artic ceramic, best ceramic based paste,

a good way i was shown to spead thermal paste was to put a layer of sandwich wrapper around your finger, you know, transparent plastic wapping paper, put a small drop of thermal paste on your finger once its wrapped in the transparent wrapping, and apply thermal paste grinding it in a circular motion,

Correct, its Ceramic not AS, (My Bad)

I would fallow the instructions on the AS website, they have given me the best resaults.
