Things to do when installing a GPU upgrade?

Upgrading from a GTX 670 to a GTX 780.

Should I clear CMOS, restore BIOS defaults, reinstall the driver (I'm running the latest), or anything else?

Please escort this noob gently by the hand.

Simply plug in the card and boot up, then install the latest driver. Nothing more than that needed, especially nowadays.

Take close up picture of GPU and post in the Sexy Close UP picture thread.
Dust out inside of computer.
Re tidy cable management if case allows.
Install gpu.
Install latest drivers.

At least that is my routine.

Yep. Even going from IGPU to a dedicated GPU required only a driver swap. Motherboard nowadays are flexible and will automatically adjust what it needs to. The only time you need to clear the BIOS is on a system change and really its not always necessary then

No need to follow my routine. The last two steps are the only necessary ones. I do highly recommend cleaning out dust though.

@M0rt: This won't apply to everybody, but I've been getting some real whackiness going on with my PC's when I change graphics cards without first uninstalling the graphics drivers. It's just a personal issue, and I don't speak for others, but something you might want to be cautious. The only thing I can attribute it to is that even though it's the same driver, the whole package has sub-packages for each graphics card.

Much obliged, the driver giving me static is what worried me.

Will an uninstall from the Device Manager suffice, should I give CCleaner a run after too, or is there a better method I'm ignorant of?

I always bench the old one for a last time before I install the new one. That way you can see the benefit of your upgrade when benching the new one.

For me personally, I've found that just uninstalling the graphics driver, then shutting down will suffice. Then on restart, Windows gives it it's own version. After that sets up, install the driver again.

Uninstall Nvidia drivers

boot in safemode

Run driver sweeper
Run disk cleanup
Run registry cleaner

Restart in windows
Reinstall drivers
Enable SLI if needed
Set the profile to the game you want

SHUT DOWN! (Do NOT restart)

Boot up

You're done.
